So you've flown Virgin twice in the last 11 months ... have you thought about whether retaining Platinum is worth the effort? You'll still have a soft landing down to Gold, which gives you many/most of the Platinum benefits.

If you want to retain Platinum, you're looking at one or two multi-sector return trips in Business class. From Melbourne, look at fares to North Queensland -- Townsville, Proserpine, Cairns, etc, flying via Sydney or Brisbane. Flying to Gold Coast via Canberra or Brisbane via Sydney would also give you large numbers of Status Credits.

I am considering dropping but really have to check, I like having the platinum just this year has been a very quiet flying one for me

If you're going to do CNS then make sure it via BNE rather than SYD, as BNE-MEL (857 miles) gets into the second level of SC (80SC in J) rather than the first (55). Direct MEL-CNS is 1432 miles, so still only 80SC.

That would be 160SC each way rather than 135SC. Currently pricing out as $925 each way via BNE in J, and if you've got a discount code then it'll be below $900.

Best of luck.

Thank you for this and im hoping I get a double status run if I am lucky before the date is up

OOL-MEL-BNE-CNS-HND v.v for a bit over 3000 is a quick way to get to plat. Did it last year when it was about $2000. You’ll have to call up to build the itinerary and deal with confused call center staff and even more confused ground staff when you show up and get your 4 BPs printed.

Had to overnight in either BNE or CNS on the outbound IIRC and could get from HND to OOL all in one day on the way back due to the early arrival into CNS.

What's the cheapest J class VA fare going? Or even the best value.
I last checked (and booked) an hour or so ago but there were just a few MEL-OOL and OOL-MEL Business class flights available for $399.

With the triple SC promotion, you're getting 240 SC's for that price -- outstanding value.

There were also flights between MEL and BNE for about $480: ie. $2 per SC.

Promo code brings those down to $380.

That's trip only 330sc, you'd have to return direct in J to get over 443.

Better to just go direct both ways 80SC X 3 the return same netting 480SC total.

But only 2 of 6 sectors they require.

I‘m pondering reclaiming Gold (although struggling to justify the cost) but at least 4x sectors is a bit easier but does Jack the price up trying to go a-b-c (return) ex SYD. I can’t get VA to price SYD-MEL-OOL (nor get discount codes to work…).
