Downside? More like yeah..that's Kool! Change from a 737 for sure. Happy flying and nice run.

One more to get Plat back. Return J with my wife to Sydney in early November. Our J flights to and from Europe will get us over the line as far as SCs are concerned. I think I will need a couple more sectors which I can hopefully do close to my renewal date.

That's if they post.

I'm still waiting for Velocity to sort out crediting the missing last flight (AUH-MNL) of an EY business class ticket (MNL-GVA-MNL) , flown over a month ago. It's very frustrating when this sort of thing happens, particularly if you planned to retain Plat via some SC's from partner airlines.

I'm doing a similar trip next month, so based on this experience I am really concerned that it will happen again, making requalification for Platinum much more difficult than it should have been.

Any suggestions for the cheapest/easiest way to get 4x eligible sectors out of PER before the end of November please?
If it's just the sectors you need shortest is probably Kalgoorlie day return and then Broome or Geraldton return? If VA fly to the latter? Or PER-ADL-OOL and back?

So I've booked a cheap return flight Sydney - Gold Coast on the same day in early February, to get me over the line to Silver status. I know Silver isn't coveted, but it's a stepping stone to Gold.

So, question:

The sectors last for 12 months, so I'll have Silver for 12 months from February.

Say I then book another return flight to earn Gold, let's say in June. Does the Gold Status last 12 months from the date of the June flights, or the February flights?

I get most of my points and status credits from American Express and FlyBuys, and some partner flights. I don't fly domestic much. Gold Status will make our international trips much nicer, with lounge access.

You'll have Gold status for 12 months from the day you attain Gold (June, or whenever you take your flights). Remember that to retain Gold you'll need to fly 4 eligible sectors as well as earn 400 SC's from the date you first reach Gold.

Thanks. With Sale fares, it can be extremely cheap to attain and retain.

If I upgrade economy fares to Business using points, do I still get the eligible sectors? And if I upgrade with cash?

Yes, if you've paid for economy Choice or Flex fares (ie. if they're not Lite fares or "Reward" seats that you've booked with points), it will count as an eligible sector if you subsequently upgrade to Business.

You'll be able to use the East Lounge at DUB if you are headed to the homeland. It does a decent breakfast including black & white puddings for your final taste of local cuisine before you get on the big metal tube back to Aus.

Thanks. I'm sure Black Ludding is a foul English invention.

I paid about $130 return for the Sydney - Gold Coast Choice Fares, so if I find a similarly good sale again, the Gold Status wont have cost much.

But I do have to get to Sydney Airport and park there, which will probably cost as much again (unless I blow a few points flying there and back from Canberra).
