The view from my "office"

Really must find out who is David (the owner of the land that MONA was built):

David Walsh; local guy who made millions (and many more millions) from gambling at a corporate level. Got a taste for collecting Egyptian things; needed somewhere to put them, and MONA was born.

He just keeps expanding the place more and more.

He of course started Dark mof_ https://darkmofo.net.au/program and the Winter Feast Dark mof_

I won’t say what these are lest I have to Moderate my own post. But somewhat confrontational

Ah, they are back! They used to be arranged in a row along a wall at eye-level, with no warning until, well, unavoidable.

I imagine that, I'm guessing, your teenage son, could easily explain what you found confrontational...

😜

I don't know what you mean by a corporate gambler. It was simply gambling.
I met him in the early 80s at the Maitland greyhounds. He was there to bet on the tote and it was the dogs as much less attendance at the dogs as compared to horse racing. He was part of/leader of a larger group.
His major skill was in remembering numbers so he had the odds in his favour playing things like blackjack. He was eventually banned from all Australian casinos and some overseas.

He began his working life at the ATO and the ATO nearly brought him down a few years ago. Discussion of his ATO problems sare at the end of this article.

Surprisingly no, he sat there with his head in his device. Not interested in that stuff yet…

Not confrontational to me, but it was interesting to see the different groups (various ages) read the O App and approach closer.

He and others gambled under a company structure.

Yes, in brief, personal gambling winnings are not taxed. However ATO argued this was a company, so company earnings are subject to company tax. They hit the company up for lots of back tax, but didn't succeed. I'm glad - money in this case much better pumped straight into the Hobart/Tasmanian economy. The impact of MONA/Dark mof_ on the local economy is enormous.

I’d forgotten they didn’t salvage the ship. Still had a slab of bridge on it?

I was very young when that happened and the Stockton Bridge had just opened in Newcastle. Many people continued to drive the long way for several years.

They still stop bridge traffic here when a ship of size is going underneath.

I think a memorial service for the Hyde Park bombing - at the actual site. Not on the actual anniversary of the bombing though.

We stumbled on a marching band in Hyde Park and we thought we would follow them. They arrived to this.

The civilians standing in the middle of photo but further up were wearing medals - maybe representing the families

There were 4 trumpeters in Royal regalia - I think to represent the 4 soldiers who died.
