I'm heading to Melbourne next Thursday on an A330 and wasn't going to bother with an upgrade request. However, my son is coming along too (we are visiting grandma) and I decided today to make an upgrade request so he can enjoy the experience. Not bothered if it doesn't happen. Coming home on QF9 so that I can enjoy the F Lounge again! And son can enjoy it too, of course.
