The view from my "office"

I think MUC airport is closed, guess they didn't quite expect this amount of snow - perhaps it's not as common in the south of Germany.

Today we stopped in Überlingen first for a wander and a coffee.

Then it was off to Löffingen for a little wander.

Finally, it was on to Weihnachtsmarkt in der Ravennaschlucht (Ravenna Gorge Christmas Market) - pre-booked tickets only, which go on sale at the beginning of Autumn and sell out pretty quick.

Everyone here did seem a bit surprised by the amount of snow and obviously it was a lot more than a light fall of snow. The lakeside area was deserted compared to yesterday. The stallholders on the island market must have taken a big hit.

We have seen the Ravenna Gorge markets on YouTube and they looked like a fabulous event to visit.

Friends from MUC just posted videos of the snow. They seemed genuinely surprised by the amount of snow (possibly because it‘s relatively early in winter?).

My first time to MUC (about 10 years ago), we got a huge overnight snowfall in mid April! Walked out of a bar around midnight and it was bucketing down….

We took a ferry trip on the Chiemsee across to Herreninsel to see one of King Ludwig II's 'other' castles - Konigsschloss Herrenchiemsee. Unfortunately a light fall of snow seems to have spooked the Bavarians and the Palace and associated museums were closed as the conditions were apparently too dangerous. So we could only look from the outside. It only dropped to around -1 C and we were wearing around 5 layers of clothing and were not particularly cold. It was consistently snowing.

Looks like the same path roughly the same time of year but without snow in 2019

This was a bit more Dr Zhivago like. I almost expected Julie Christie to wander out of the woods in one of her fur coats.

That's a stunning photo in the forest.

Löffingen was just a random "we have 45 minutes to kill, let's pull off the motorway and see what's what". Was a cool stop, really well looked after buildings and lots of colour. A more unique little Christmas market in there too but they were only setting up when we arrived.

We could all irritate @VPS and spam the thread with snow and markets. 🤭

Turns out that these gems are pre digital era and buried in a box somewhere..... sigh...

My office for the next couple of weeks and the reason my trip report from July has come to a grinding halt.

And view from the actual office where the laptop remains turned off.

But if I have to turn it on at some point, the view isn’t terrible.

Munich HBF is closed so no trains are operating. There are predicted to be disruptions and overcrowding tomorrow if it resumes. No long distance buses operate on a Sunday

It would cost at least 85€ if we stayed in Prien and we had already paid for Salzburg so I sucked it up and we took the most expensive taxi ride of our life 165€. But at least we are back on track 😁

The taxi ride was extremely scenic and the driver spoke adequate English. I am
not going to complain too much as the news shows disruptions all around Southern Europe. We were lucky to be able to find an alternative and get to our next destination.
