The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

I don't really like Pisa that much. Too many tourists, and everything that comes with that.

Lucca & San Gimignano are much more interesting IMHO. Siena is also still worth a visit.

Very much a 30 minute stopover on the way to somewhere else.

But better than Canberra - I'd happily swap places, tourists and all.

I was worried a bit that Pisa will be too busy but luckily it wasn't compared to previous times I've been there. Lucca however was very busy as they celebrated something there and it seemed all the town was out.

My new solar panels were installed today! Hopefully next summer I won't have to pay for electricity :)

I found if you go behind the leaning tower there's other beautiful buildings and quieter because people just want to see the tower and then PO - Lucca is my favourite but Siena and Firenze are great as well - ahh dreaming of another holiday

For Pisa, by all means see the Piazza dei Miricoli but to see the real Pisa one needs to get well away from the tourist sleeze. Over on the Arno are some nice places. Being a university town, away from the main tourist areas, Pisa is quite a nice town with some lovely food and people. Never eat close to the tower.

Do try Montepulciano, Montalcino and Pienza if you get the chance.

Coming late to this. We had the most glorious view from our room in Lisbon, but I loved this one best:

Yeah! You can see Saint Catherine's shrunken head. Bologna is worth a visit.

Did you do the Melbourne to Sydney 2 nighter? We nearly booked it last minute but then a few other things at home that needed attention got in the way. I was on the ship in October and found it pretty good as Princess ships go, certainly better than their other ones in Australian waters.

The town square in Siena where they hold the Palio each year. Saint Catherine's shrunken head is in the basilica not far from here

All these photos of Tuscany are bringing back memories of a long summer... I was about 2 inches shorter, and 50 Kgs lighter back then...

I remember long lunches, afternoon siestas, and lots of walking around the various towns... and a little bit of evening alcohol intake as well.
