Over the next few days my office will be the 4WD and the mine site near Golden in the Rockies in British Columbia. As a bit an antidote to those in hot Aussie offices - town and country - here is some cooling relief.

The day starts from Calgary at 6am, about 90 mins before sunrise and after an hour we are nearing Canmore, just before the Banff National Park. Brekkie at Canmore at Tim Horton's and some powdered egg breakfast 'sandwiches'. Not a great start, but "Tims" is a Canadian institution and our hosts didn't ask for alternatives!



Straight past Banff ( the 'Wild Flour Cafe' on Bison Street does the best coffee in the Rockies). The sun touches the top of some peaks - actually much nicer and pink than shown here. Yes, we drove safely. I hate driving in the Park through the winter. They don't salt the roads, so black ice is always a hazard.



And Lake Louise? Pffft. Over-rated and the coffee is dreadful; drive on.




Frozen waterfalls, frozen roads, frozen mountains. Need a pit-stop but need to be inside for it - outside its about minus 15 and a decided health hazard for anything exposed!



Reach Golden after three hours which is pretty good going in winter. Meetings there. Its a major stop-over point on the Trans-Canada Highway, and a big strip mall along it, but the town is off the highway and much nicer. Pretty situation.

Brisbane G20 the level of security in the CBD as the motorcades started to roll was unbelievable around 10 police within the vicinity of every intersection

Every single man hole cover / street service pit has a bar coded seal on it.



Every single item of 'street furniture' / power pole / street - traffic light with a removable panel has the same barcode seal - as per the simple road side bollard here.



Every motorcade is lead by 2 police motorcycles - police cars - unmarked security car - delegation vehicles - following police vehicle and ambulance.
Every intersection is closed - vehicles do not stop once rolling and most in the CBD travel at a fair pace.





The city is incredible clean with street cleaners everywhere ............although some of those street cleaner some how don't look quite right if you get my drift.

It's been interesting to see NZPOL members wearing full kit whilst over for G20, I didn't think general duties went armed in NZ?

They don't. If firearms are required they have to mobilize the AOS (Armed Offenders Squad).

I walked out of my hotel yesterday morning and there was someone literally accross the road selling pomegranate juice. I tried one and it was delicious. Thanks for the tip.

Not a very practical office this one.



This office was very comfortable.



This office had THE view.



I can't decide which was the best aspect, the view of the rubbish bins,the construction site, the gas tanks, all hard up against a motorway, set in the very centre of a wind farm, with driving horizontal cold rain to elevate the mood.


And if you want an office to impress...
