The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

Matobo NP (World Heritage). Granite boulders, Cecil Rhodes' grave, rhino viewing on foot (35 metres away). Near Bulawayo. Zimbabwe.

... vaguely amused that the people in the background are intently looking the other way 'concealed' behind the bush, but are 'in the open' as far as the rhinos are concerned ....

Rhinos .......what rhinos? :(

Perhaps they were more concerned about the pride of lions stalking them from behind!

re: The view from my "office"

Luckily a Rhino can only see 34 mtrs...

Having been to a few parks in Africa and watched a rhino in full flight there's no way I would be standing there!

But a good sense of smell so as long as they are downwind.....oh that would mean JohnM is upwind.Wonder if there will be any more posts.:p:shock:;)

Gee, that was a great performance by those ground birds - lucky they didn't see us behind this brush. Hmm? You say you heard something behind us? Maybe its another one! I'll just turn around , and ....

And now for something completely different ...

The toilets stalls at the Turkish Airlines lounge at Izmir are kinda different. Mirrors on both walls either side. When I'm in, err, that situation  its not a view that I really want accentuated.

To give you some idea of the effect, this was the view from my briefly visited office a few weeks ago:

Drove to Ballina on Friday afternoon (not in my 6 month old company car which broke down - that's another story) courtesy of Hertz.

Went to see a favourite band of mine play and reminisce about a town I used to visit regularly in the late 60's and 70's when my mothers parents were alive.

That's dedication to a band for you (no - it's not my back!)

Went to where my grandparents used to live (Riverside Drive - the house is long gone) but the memory of drowning in the river remain (thanks Dad for saving me)

Almost had apoplexy when I saw the house name :o - didn't realise you had a house there amaroo. You almost got the correct number as well ;)...

No trip to Ballina can be completed without getting this photo:

re: The view from my "office"

Our guide in the reserve we stayed in (South Africa) told us about the time he was on a walking safari very close to the lodge with a honeymoon couple and encountered a rhino. He told them to run and distracted it, jumping into a thornybush. Given its poor eyesight it could not find him but could smell him. Thankfully for him the other lodge rangers turned up soon after to rescue him!

Yesterday. Full day game drive. Hwange NP. Zimbabwe. The mating lions were too far away to catch on a phone camera...

Warthog steak for dinner tonight. Recommended - not dry and not gamey. Had it several times in Namibia last year. More plainly served tonight, but still good.

So at one stage you were a Trillionaire, doesn't matter what country. And the joy is you can give some of your vast wealth to family members before you depart this mortal coil ;)
