The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

Russell, what do you do for work? I am an engineer and have been working in the marine construction industry for a while but do calm water work ie Sydney harbour. Was looking into offshore construction a while back. Sounds like you do something in that field? Not looking for a reference, just curious what you do!

re: The view from my "office"

When looking through some shots from last year found these, from my seat behind the driver on a 2am dash doing a ride test in a new locomotive from Blacktown to Springwood testing the lateral forces and body roll. The seats are like captains chairs with arms, but it did need a good grip at times.

So Matt, is that Lapstone in the first shot and then Blaxland in the second? If so, never quite seen them looking like that.

Hi Schpeet,

I am an offshore crane operator, mainly construction: pipelines, jackets, platforms for oil and gas. Just finished phase 1 of the INPEX Gas Export Pipeline which was 150km of 42" concrete coated pipe from Bladin Point in Darwin to a spot in the ocean.

Off to Singapore on Friday for two weeks familiarisation on Saipem's pipelay vessel "Castorone" which will come down and finish the remainder of the pipeline in deep water ending in the Browse Basin 200nm off WA.

In total 889km. When I get hungry I go drilling. Hope to have a nice "view from my office" picture of the largest pipelayer in the world soon.

Welcome to AFF Schpeet, good to have you on board. I'm sure you would have had some views from your harbour office that would make many of us jealous

These 2 photos were taken last week in Hong Kong

Typical day in HK with lots of smog coming from China. Taken from the Hyatt Regency TST hotel room on the 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] Floor.

But woke next morning to a sensational day – something that I had not seen in HK for a very long time. I would spend close to 1 month each year in HK.

re: The view from my "office"

On my recent trip to Dunedin I hopped in the car after the exhibition finished for the day and drove out to the spectacular Otago peninsula. Saw some locals, nearly got blown away and also saw an Albatross winging in from somewhere.

By crew boat to Saipem's Castorone, the largest pipelay vessel in the world and my home for the next twelve months.

Taken at Singapore Outer Port Limit (a "car park" for vessels/barges/whatever).
