The view from my "office"

Yesterday's office on Queen Mary 2 in the Arabian Sea checking for subs and missiles. Right near the Iran border.

When I was 17 I applied to the Navy in the hopes I could be a helicopter pilot.
Didn't work out obviously, which is surely for the best.
Sometimes interesting to consider what might have been.

Love the Neuschwanstein photos. It is an incredibly pretty castle all year round, but especially so showing the colours of Autumn and snow in Winter.

My nephews applied for Navy and Airforce. Both accepted. Navy nephew left almost as soon as he got his Honours degree (my rant) but Airforce nephew is loving it and he graduated last year.

Today we drove through heavy snow to Ludwig's Schloss.

On the way back to Oberammergau we came upon an accident where a van had slid off the rad in the heavy snow fall, and taken out a power pole. There was a bus and several vehicles at all sorts of angles. Once we ensured everyone was ok, did a 3 point turn and found an alternative route. It was a tough day's driving though on very slippery roads, the like of which I never encounter back home.

Enjoy but I'm slightly (maybe very) jealous - mid April and you have snow and I spent a snowless Christmas in the Dolomites and it was 31 in Adelaide today

I've never been that fussed about snow, but this is stunning. I guess the castle plays a part too.

I must admit I was "pursuaded" to go there this week, but the heavy snow falls put me off at first considering the long walk up to the Schloss (no buses when the snow is heavy, just horse and cart or on two feet). But when i got there the setting was amazing, the trees looked like they had been decorated in snow, and in the end I thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The snow this week has been hectic, and several roads had been closed in the area around Oberammergau and Garmisch. The problem has been that everyone has switched to their "summer" tyres, and the cold spell has caught them out. Fun watching cars and trucks slide around until its your turn. This was our car 30mins before we drove off today.

We drove through some heavy snow falls from Oberammergau until the Black Forest where it finally eased. Then approaching Strasbourg it was quite pleasant around 5pm (Schloss Ortenburg).

The temperature ranged from -2 to 9 celsius between 9am and 5pm.
