The view from my "office"

I was just minding my own business in my mobile office this morning when you could have knocked me over with a feather-

A special rest area on NSW's north Coast for an American who lives in Melbourne.:p;)

An interesting but sad view today - I was about 15 minutes from Lochinver in Scotland where I was supposed to stay for the night and saw a queue of traffic either side of a small bridge which turned out to be a fatal accident and must have been less than 10 minutes before. 4 police cars, 2 ambulances and the helicopter and when the coastguard landed and ran over to the the road and then switched everything off and waited you knew it wasn't good news. The only other alternative to get to my accommodation was a minimum 90 minute drive over single lane highways into the setting sun so drove back to Ullapool and chanced upon a beautiful B&B - the owner offered to drive me into Ullapool so I could have dinner and a few drinks and get a taxi home.

May not have been so dire as you think. Depending on time needed to stabilise patient the pilot could choose to shut down. Hopefully this was the case.
Sounds like your alternate route was serendipity.

Edit: Just checked a map of your location. Looks interesting. Worth the visit?

Sadly it was fatal. A motorbike came round a corner and someone was on the wrong side of the road. I was there for nearly an hour waiting and the cops said at least 2-3 hours before the road would be opened but they admitted it could be longer. My BnB is lovely but I can hear the guy across the hall snoring through two doors

Sad to hear that.
It looks an interesting part of the world you are traveling in. Road trip? Would you recommend it?

Absolutely loving it - there is a Scotland planning thread http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ation-guide/scotland-2018-planning-81305.html
and as soon I can I'll start writing up my trip. I've had about 7 one night stops which I intensely dislike but have a 3 nighter from tomorrow and hoping to go the Orkneys on a day trip on Saturday - just checked over 500 photos in the last week in Scotland so some culling to do
