The view from my "office"

We were at a bit of a loose end yesterday in Istanbul and our hotel was a couple of hundred metres away from Miniatürk. Entry was less than $5 so we thought we'd take a quick look. Miniatürk houses nearly all of Turkey's major buildings and attractions, all in miniature. Some are not that miniature though and are taller than me. They even have a smaller version of Ataturk Airport, complete with planes moving around on the tarmac.

Ahh the joy of Ryanair - it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't try and sell you everything from cameras to perfume and lotto cards every 5 minutes

Our first Parador. (Spain - León)

Aren't they terrific? I ended up staying in 10 over two visits; the least interesting architecturally and olde-style wise was at Salamanca but it had a killer view over the 'old' and 'new' cathedrals.

Which gives me the happy excuse of showing this pic again ... why do you think they carved an astronaut into the decoration of a 500+ year old cathedral?

I can recommend a visit there. On weekends you may see someone from the Lark distillery there. They have had a relationship since the brewery started.I was lucky enough to be there a few years ago when they put some of their IPA into old Lark casks and then shipped it on the Empress back and forward across Bass Strait until it had done the original distance between England and India.I really liked it.So today a small bottle of their IPA and a bottle of their spiced dark ale-Willie Warmer.
And to those who have naughty thoughts Willie is the fellow who set up the brewery and still owns it today.

Steady, ditch that horrid white plastic chair and you've won me! That's paradise ... perhaps retirement!

I sometimes amaze myself. I love the luxury of a really palatial hotel ... but for short periods only. For eternity, that place is me to a tee!

I took my own chair, but didn't really need it - the bush table would seat 12 to 15 each side - so plenty of seating. The interior is lined with Tas oak on the walls and birds eye myrtle on the ceiling - it is a shack (with no power), but very well done, with a grassy clearing for tents and the Inglis river along side.
