As a riposte to JohnM, who has the misfortune to live "North of the River", here are some photos from my bike ride around the Canning River this morning.

The bike path winding through PaperBark trees (Melaleuca quinquenervia) about 10 km from the centre of Perth



Part of the old "Convict Fence" built in the 1860's by transported convicts. It was designed to keep a channel open for barge loads of timber coming down the river. Uncommon history: The convict fence in Perth's Canning River



Perth CBD & Kings Park, from the bike path under the Mount Henry Bridge. The Canning River joins the Swan River on the other side of Canning Bridge, in the middle ground. All this water is tidal estuary - I have seen a shark from the Mount Henry Bridge bike path.
