The view from my "office"

Oh wow @amaroo ! its on my list for October this year.

It’s absolutely stunning, a must see. We’ve been to Hagia Sophia (history is the reverse ie church > Mosque) .... but I will say the Turks have done a better job of making it a place of equals. The Spanish have conquered and they want everyone to know it .... 600 years later!

In the UK there is an obsession with rerunning referenda and elections until the result changes. Today it was demands for another general election 18 months after the last one which was only 2 years after the previous one. 49896455_10156077960135208_4744252541955473408_n.jpg 50537484_10156077960075208_2735084622051278848_n.jpg

Why is it a 2 stage process? Foster then adopt?

When we list our last dog Lucy in May last year (she was a greyhound cross), we came back from a planned holiday in July ready to foster ex-racing greyhounds but we wanted a female (they’re smaller). This was our first placement and we fell in love. But she had to go back in Dec for spaying and the owner kept her longer than expected as she lost weight post-op. She has got back to pre-op weight so she was happy to release her back to us. We’ve expressed our desire to adopt and she was willing. Just got to give it a couple of weeks to show she’s putting on weight and there shouldn’t be an issue.

My first visit there and I hope not to go back and unlikely we will adopt from this owner again.

She looks very content and happy (both of them)

Didn’t take her long to remember everything. Ran outside and did a zoom around the backyard in happiness and came back to the door skidding to a stop as the cat was there to greet us. Neither were expecting each other. Surprisingly over the next couple of hours they bonded closer than before - nudging and even licking each other. Perfect

Probably still dopey from the anaesthetic. :) Poor lamb but bet she will be spoiled.
No, that was 3 weeks ago. She was just bonding with my daughter again. Oh yes, after a Petbarn full wash on our way home, she settled in just nicely last night.

Surveyed the house and jumped up on our bed and stayed. We relented.

How can you say no to this face

Sister in law and brother in Ireland have racing greyhounds (plus a good many retired ones as she does not dispose of any of them if they do not perform or are getting too old to race). They are the ones who took 50 dogs (the entire kennel) with them when they emigrated from Australia in 2003. They always have a couple of house dogs who have lives just like your poppet. Of course they never make any money as the cost of upkeep cancels out their winnings but SIL loves it.

So in SA, greyhounds go through a series of reprogramming events. They have to be kept on a muzzle in public until they graduate to a blue? Collar and leash. But they must always be on a leash in public, even in the dog parks. Is that the same throughout Australia? Do whippets have the same issues? (Oopsie, this is totally the wrong thread. Mods, move or delete if needed, I’ll even let JT get her hands on it :D).

Nah, just add a photo of your back yard to get back on topic. :)

Friday 4 January we attended a surprise 90th birthday party in McLaren Vale. Most of the weekend was taken up with catching up with the birthday girl and other guests. As it worked out we only had Sunday afternoon to ourselves. As @Pushka and @VPS suggested we visited the d'Arenberg Cube. It is a rather unusual building attracting lots of visitors. Next wineries visited were Coriole and Alpha Box and Dice.

Unfortunately we did not get to the Salopian Inn. Sunday evening would have been our only opportunity, but coming back from the wine tastings we were too tired and just bought a Coles roast chicken, sat out in the courtyard of our B&B and opened a bottle of d'Arenberg Lovegrass.

Mrs jxv has expressed the wish to visit our 90 year old friend again later this year. If that happens I will make a reservation at the Salopian Inn before we go.

On the way back from McLaren Vale to Geelong we made a stop in Mount Gambier.

The most famous tourist attraction is the Blue Lake. I still do not know why, but it turns bright blue in November and the colour then fades over the next months. It was still very blue. Fifteen years ago we visited in September and it was then more or less grey.

The sinkholes are the next attractions on the list. These are the Umpherston Gardens, created by Mr Umpherston, a rich industrialist, now maintained by the local council.

@QF WP - I don’t blame you for not going through them again. I know a lot of people in rescue, and have never heard of dogs having to return to owner for desexing and then being kept to regain weight. Weight loss post op is pretty standard, and dogs will recover better in their home environment.

If a rescue is going to release a dog undesexed (most won’t) then the arrangement is you have to take it your own Vet and then produce proof of desexing.
