The view from my "office"

Morning office outside Termez, at Alexandria on the Oxus, a city possibly founded by Alexander the Great in the late 4th century BC, on the River Oxus. He was on his way to India.

That's Afghanistan in the distance over the river.

Buddhist monastery office, dating from the 1st century AD. The walls are original, but have been protectively capped by hardened mud. Column bases are copies.





The is a stupa, about 1.3 m high but it's covered in a modern dome to protect it.

The view from this office is Afghanistan, across the River Oxus. I've found a tour company who does day trips into there.

Next time.



A bit further away, with Uzbek guard tower. the Uzbeks maintain quite a wide buffer zone on their side of the river.

View from Tajikistan office looking towards the last border hurdle coming from Uzbekistan. A few of the group are late coming out. The Tajik border official insisted on taking the date of an eVisa email as the ( wrong) date of visa entry date for one of the party. Took a call to the consulate to fix.

My BIL & SIL did a cruise along the St Lawrence and visited PEI. Loved it. They told us about a wartime explosion in Halifax where a ship loaded with ammunition destined for Allied the war effort blew up with an enormous death toll. They found the story very sad but tremendously interesting.
