The view from my "office"

re: The view from my "office"

Well they have cleared the rubble (a couple of very large skips did the trick), but now the jackhammers are assailing our eardrums:

Slowly working their way along the top besser brick wall:

Not finishing anytime soon. After they knock down what they need, they'll be building back out.

I was led to believe that they were just demolishing the front section (where they ended yesterday), but looks ike they are going deeper (from todays besser brick work). Just grateful that I don't work in Libertine (Perfume Shop downstairs on the corner of the building site). Dust has been bad for the shop (although they are "spraying" but done by a most apparently uninterested workman doing a half hearted job) and patronage is waaaay down for a normally busy time.

A great experience. I once had the N summer solstice at Nordkapp watching the sun go down - but straight up again before hitting the horizon. That, followed by driving back S at 0200h with the sunnies on was memorable.

But I would not want to be there for the N winter solstice...

drron, I was a dummy and didn't realise you were cruising as part of your trip (DOH). We were on PA2 in 2010 as well from Tromso to Reykjavik - a fantastic trip.

You're right. Land of the midnight sun means a lack of sunsets for you to photograph but of course lots of wonderful twilights.

Back to my reality, today is tearing down more of the front:

Just realised behind all the Gyprock are besser bricks - the whole way down and steel stabilisers through most of them. This is going to be long and noisy...

You call that a building site? They went down three stories through solid sandstone next to us - now that really creates noise and vibration.

We may well have seen each other as we ended our cruise in Tromso.Next cruise was to svalbad and then Reykjavik.

re: The view from my "office"

drron - possibly. Because of some work at the wharf the ship ended up further away from the centre than usual so we need a taxi from Radisson Blu to the ship. The only downside of the cruise was the large number of Captain's Choice passengers - from memory about 40! It was a fantastic cruise for a significant birthday for Mr LtL. For mine we did Galapagos and MP in 2012. (Spring chicken). We did have a noro outbreak on our arctic cruise which unfortunately I succumbed to. My abiding memory is the doctor trying to insist that our butler come and sponge me down as I had a temperature. I managed to convince him I would be fine. It passed quickly but we were held up in Longyearbyen for a few hours as we had to wait for a person to be out of isolation and be able to disembark there. Looking forward to seeing your latest pics.

I declined as gracefully as I could, given I was somewhat unwell. In the end the doctor laid the pillows around me so I would not roll out of bed. Once I had the Maxalon I was fine but confined the cabin for 24 hours and ship for 48 hours.

Wimps. Get it over with quickly, I say.

Jealously submitting this photo from my son, waiting in QC (found a complimentary pass for him this morning) for a delayed QF93 to board (I didn't think it would affect me, seeing him walk off through departures on his first OS trip on his own, but tearing up a bit now)........
