FINNAIR - new Business Class AirLounge seat

Sat in the front rows on both A330 and A350, no issues with noise or aromas for me, both flights 9+ hours no ear plugs.
No noise issue for me either was responding to @MJW Kangaroo saying it would be disruptive.
I didn’t find it to be. I almost always sit in the front row in J, exception being a shorter overnight flight with a forward galley and the crew clanking breakfast dishes half way through the flight.
No ear plugs can drown that out.

My flights (3 long haul, 2 within Europe) were last December. Maybe they changed by then? Just checked my TR - I complimented the IFE (comparing it, in recent experience with QF, QR, TK and SQ). It was the wi-fi that was flaky.
Two flights were in November and one in December (all Europe-Asia).

The IFE catalogue is nowhere near as extensive as many airlines (Lucky from OMAAT, albeit in 2022 - though I’ve not observed any significant change since then - wrote, ‘The entertainment selection as such was just okay. The number of movies and TV shows was in the dozens rather than in the hundreds, so this was a far cry from Emirates’ ICE system.’).

The cameras, map and flight schedule are all great features; I’d argue class-leading.

I flew Helsinki to Singapore about a year and a bit ago. My clear recollection is that I had a really comfortable flight with more than adequate space to lounge and sleep. Inflight service was efficient and as attentive as you needed for an overnighter.
Worst part of the flight was the late departure time in an airport that’s pretty much shut down. The Helsinki lounge is just an OK.

My wife and I both dislike it, and much prefer the previous Business seat design to this “seat/lounge”. Having flown it some 5 times, we simply don’t like the design, operating method and comfort factor. It certainly appears to have its fans, but my perception is there are just as many critics. Yet another airline “enhancement” (that dreaded word!).

Business class seats that do not lay flat, but rather the occupant has to wriggle down?
Finnair launches a business class seat that doesn't recline
These seats are terrible. I am partially disabled with chronic arthritis and travel regularly for business. I need to travel with the seat reclined and foot rest fully extended e.g. Cathay & Qantas. unfortunately Qantas have leased Finnair aircraft for Sydney/Bangkok for an extended time. Also the inflight entertainment is not user friendly. Well done Qantas looking after the new routes and don't care about the established routes with little competition. There used to be two Jumbo flights Syd/Bkk. daily(QF & BA) + Emirates with a 380 daily BKK/Syd/Auckland. Now with a shortage of availability on one world aircraft airfares are expensive and Business class reward seats very difficult even with Platinum membership.

I see this is you first post. Welcome to AFF, @andywilliams

We experienced this product from Shanghai to Helsinki in July as a family of four on the A350 and were quite impressed. We sat in the middle seats, 2 rows of 2. The seat is so spacious and great privacy with the high sides to the seat. I agree the inflight entertainment options are a little thin but more an issue if you travelled with them often. The kids options were a little limited but thankfully it was a night flight so the kids slept after a little TV. The side table in the middle and the pull out table are generously sized, great for the kids to do a puzzle or draw etc. If I remember correctly you could get in and out of the seat with pull out table still out which I liked. We did have an issue with the tech not working for the first hour so couldn't watch tv or use the wireless charging but after this no issue. I found it a good seat to sleep in as it was so spacious. I understand the lack of recline bothers some but with the cushions it was quite comfortable.

A few people have mentioned poor IFE so I'm going to go prepared. What are your go tos for downloading? (Not having done it before, I don't want to, say, download Netflix shows and then find it won't work.) If there's a thread on this which I've overlooked, feel free to link that so that this doesn't go too off topic.

Are you on the QF service or AY service? On the AY services (this thread) wifi is active and costs €24.95 for the flight and can entertain as I've had SD streaming working fine in the past plus they've got the latest movies. On QF services wifi isn't active so could download from prime/youtube/netflix etc but these require a subscription. On QF services hey run a slightly different version of the AY software with a QF collection of entertainment.

I download a bunch of Netflix shows and replay them on my phone. Occasionally it seems to want an internet connection (which it shouldn't as the programs are hard downloaded onto the phone). A couple of close and re-opens fixes it.

Don't download too early before your flight/use, as there are expiry times. If something expires, you can refresh it by just clicking on it with an internet connection. Doesn't need re-downloading.

AY service. Good to know re in flight wifi, but my preference is to have already downloaded content ready to go.

Thanks for the tip @RooFlyer re not downloading too early and also the closing and reopening if it's not playing ball. I will give it a test run before leaving.
