The view from my "office"

You'll know your way around! Many of the former crew on board?

Only the restaurant manager and a waiter. All expedition crew are different, as well as housekeeping staff.

One nice touch is that the Entertainment Hostess is also a singer and does a set in the Panorama Lounge or Dolce Vita on several nights. Lounge singing, not a “show”. It is a nice addition to the otherwise non existent entertainment schedule.

Our trivia team is very consistent. We have come second in all three games!

The urban myth that Iceland is Europe’s largest producer or exporter of bananas has been propagated in various books and other media. It was mentioned in an episode of the BBC quiz programme QI[9] and on a forum connected with the show.[10] According to FAO statistics, the largest European producer of bananas is France (in Martinique and Guadeloupe), followed by Spain[11] (primarily in the Canary Islands). Other banana-producing countries in Europe include Portugal (on Madeira), Greece (primarily in southern Crete), Cyprus, Turkey and Italy.

Although a small number of banana plants still exist in greenhouses and produce fruit every year, Iceland imports nearly all of the bananas consumed in the country, with imports now amounting to over 18 kg (40 lb) per capita per annum.[12] The Agricultural University of Iceland maintains the last such farm with 600–700 banana plants in its tropical greenhouse, which were received as donations from producers when they shut down (then the Horticultural College). Bananas grown there are consumed by the students and staff and are not sold.[8]

wiki.

Well, that's what I get for believing the locals! (Visit in 2006)

Pity (for me). The very affable Colombian social director (?title); I spoke to him about my visiting Cartagena after my SilverSea Caribbean cruise this December and he was very enthusiastic with suggestions. Unfortunately I never got back to him about it. :( Maybe he'll be on that cruise!

Pretty amazing at the staff turnover, except @drron did mention that many of the regular crew don't like the cold of Antarctic cruises.

“Entertainment Host”. Zaid was on Wind until London, when Chloe came on.

Bratislava, Slovakia today’s office.
Our bus was pulled over by Hungarian borer patrol just before the border with Slovakia.

When I first went to the QF Flounge in SYD the corn fritters were excellent. Sadly as the years have gone by the amount of corn has steadily decreased. I no longer order them.

Jan Mayen Island, Norway. Silver Wind was only the third ship to visit this year. Station chief, Frank, came to show us his “office” for six months. We were privileged to be there. (2 degrees C.)

The cross is for seven seamen who died in 1634 trying to winter in Jan Mayen.

Driftwood washed up with the ice floes in years gone by. There is no more ice, so no more driftwood. Worse, no more bears or arctic foxes. Our bear lookout up by the cross was just practising.
