Greece Day 10 - Santorini

The day started an overcast 25 degrees so we decided to tackle the 10km path from Fira to Oia. Google maps is optimistic on the walk time. It’s 3.5hrs needs some moderate fitness and anyone would be mad to tackle it in full summer sun

From what we saw Oia seems very overrated with our location at Imerovigli betterIMG_2484.jpeg
Dinner was at the Athenian House for probably our best dinner in Greece

Last night and today very rough seas. I said not as bad as Drakes Passage but my travelling companion wasn’t convinced. Has been confined to her bed all day. The Norwegian Sea is being unkind. Looks like conditions are starting to improve though. Sometime tomorrow we will enter fjords again which should help my friend's stomach.

And a solo dinner for moi as she is still abed though thinks she may be a little better. At least can take liquids now.

Greece Day 12 - moving day Santorini to London

Our Greek trip has come to an end. Thoroughly enjoyed it and the weather has been around 28 degrees most days.

Red beach and a final sunset

Of the three islands Naxos was a clear favourite. Much more relaxed.

If you are travelling late season like us it’s important to note the islands start to close up - and I mean properly close up nothing open. The general view from speaking to the hotels, restaurants, transport etc is Mykonos was closing around 16/10, Naxos around 23/10 and whilst some cafes and hotels etc stay open for the cruise ships Santorini by the end of the month.

Today I went for a little jog around the Chicago neighbourhoods.

42km later I got this photo.

Finish of the Chicago marathon 4:05:09 after I started.

Whats the average finish time for a marathon.

Average people don’t run them.

In 2023, the average time for men to finish a marathon was 4:14:29 and 4:42:09 for women, according to Verywell Fit. But runners will have much longer. Participants in the marathon have six hours and 30 minutes to finish the course

Congratulations !

Also notable, that while you were running Ruth Chepngetich from Kenya achieved something truly remarkable finishing in 2:09:56, being the first woman to go under 2:10 and smashing the previous record by almost 2 minutes.
