Morning Team! With Velocity Reward bookings to North America, I see that the rules are a little different, Cancellations will result in forfeit as it’s an “Exception”.

My question is with route changes though as North America is not called out under Flexibility, in others experience could that be as drastic as changing a QR flight to UA, or SQ to UA etc.please?

I don’t mind fees for changing but I’d rather not lose a lot of points. No bookings made as yet, I’m just curious what flexibility I have with route changes though

The exception for USA is that you can cancel free of charge within 24 hours, provided you have booked more than 7 days out.

Otherwise, for all other itineraries, you’d have to pay the $60 fee for cancellation, regardless of when you cancel, ie even within 24 hours.

Ok great thank you! It's the spacing of the lines that got me I think

As an example if I had enough points I could have an SQ booking to LAX in hand, see a better direct UA flight one day, book that, and then go and cancel the SQ for the fee and get my SQ booking points back.

As long as the points don't disappear I'm happy

Just curious, I know officially fly ahead for choice tickets are a perk for WP, but has there been instances of SG getting fly ahead granted with choice tickets?

Yes. I have had reasonable success at this. Always at the gate only though. I have asked at the lounge before and they have said no, but then succeeded to get on the same flight going to the gate! When I get to the airport I generally go straight to the gate of the flight departing soonest to my destination and see if I can get on. Then head to the lounge if no go.

Have booked a flight next year through Booking.com (SQ214 & SQ52) as it was substantially cheaper than going directly through SQ and am wondering whether it is possible to link my Velocity and/or Krisflyer account to these flights? I've had a search online and it seems that as long as the flight is through SQ (or a partner airline), then I should be able to link these somehow? Thanks!

Your booking confirmation email could show an airline reference/PNR, which will be 6 char alphanumeric. Go to the SQ website and enter this into the Manage Booking form, you should be able to add any eligible FF number there.

Thanks for that - didn't realise it was that simple! Looks like it's auto-filled my contact email as something Booking.com has generated, so I think I'm going to have to call them and get it added.

Given I'm not a big international traveler, am I better off adding my Velocity member number to get those points? Or is it restricted to Krisflyer and I'll just have to do a transfer across?

Add your VFF number if that's what you ultimately want to earn. Given your travel patterns, this is probably a better option than KrisFlyer which has a hard 36 month expiry on points earned.

here goes with my first question. I am Velocity Platinum flying on a velocity rewards booking in economy on Etihad to Europe with my family (4 in total) who dont have any status. I looked on the Velocity site re the benefits and I see i get:
priority boarding
priority check in
extra 20 kgs
Etihad lounge access

When I rang Velocity to sort out some issues with the booking and to see what the deal was with lounge access rules and confirm the other benefits I was told with Etihad "all these benefits are at the discretion of Etihad " and they gave me the impression these benefits may not eventuate.

A couple of questions - whats the experience on the ground? is Etihad good with recognising these benefits? Also I know that I have one guest inclusive of kids for lounge access and I assume that is strictly policed? Has anyone got any tips for getting the whole family in or do I just hang at the gate in Abu Dhabi?

Etihad is good on the ground with VA benefits in my experience. Guest limits for lounges are adhered to, but ask nicely and you never know your luck. Enjoy your trip - you'll be going through the new Terminal A.

I've got a flight economy reward seat booked for DFW-SFO-MEL with United early next year.
I know United don't release Business reward seats until like a month before departure, but would it be possible to only change a portion of my trip (SFO-MEL) to business if seats get released since I never see any business availability for the DFW-SFO leg.
Also would the $70 fee be payable or would it be free since you can't make a mixed cabin booking online?

I am VA Silver, and I have 2 lounge passes available. I am also QR and SQ Gold, but I have put my VA number in my itinerary, and not QR/SQ number.

You have three options:

1. Use your two lounge passes for the grown-ups, and ask nicely for the kids. Hopefully the lounge staff will have some remaining Christmas spirit and will let all 4 of you in! (the younger your kids, the more likely it is they'll let them in).
2. Change your booking so that your Gold status shows on the booking. That will let you and 1 guest into the lounge, and you could use your lounge passes for the kids.
3. (This is a combination of 1 and 2 above) Change your booking so that your Gold status is on the booking, which will get the grown-ups into the lounge, and ask nicely for the kids. If the lounge staff refuse to let the kids in, then use your 2 lounge passes as a last resort.

If you're using options 2 or 3, and you want to earn Velocity points on the flight, your only option is to ask the Virgin staff to enter your Velocity number on your booking again after you've entered the Lounge (either when you're in the Lounge, or at the gate). Never thought of that! Probably worth a try if the staff in the Lounge and/or at the gate are busy.
