The Virgin Australia Newbie Questions Thread

Got an email today from Velocity spruiking travel with partner airlines. Half way down is an entire section ‘sit back an lounge’… yet two of the lounges, the silver kris lounge in singapore and the QR al mourjan lounge are NOT available to velocity members unless travelling business class! Sure it states it in the fine print, but given its velocity, and sent to a platinum, if i didn’t know better i’d assume i was entitled to those lounges!

To be fair many have a number next to it but the Polaris lounge one is a little confusing as SM doesn't appear below :

Yeah, i know there’s a little number beside… but why pick those lounges when the email is directed at Velocity? They could have just said Qatar Gold Lounge and Krisflyer Gold lounge.

The reason I mentioned it is because pacifictraveller asked in post 717 whether they could access the Gold Lounge in DOH… and I was going to reply with ‘no, you get Al Mourjan’.

It was only because someone agreed it was the gold lounge that I had to go back and check the email’s fine print.

Quick one.
As Gold I have 2 lounge passes. Do they add up if I upgrade to Platinum or do I need to use them before so I don't lose them?

You would have got the two lounge passes as silver. Go,d comes with lounge membership included.

The lounge passes continue to exist for one year after you attain silver. I used them when I was gold, so you don’t need to use them up before reaching a higher level.

I've realised those were from Silver, yeah. They are pretty much useless since I'm Gold, right? Can I gift them to someone?

No, but you can use them to take extra guests into the lounge. I took in a party of three by using a pass. but otherwise not much use.

It's been a while since I redeemed reward seats via VFF.

I remember at the time, the search function didn't have a monthly calendar view like Qantas' (example below) - you had to click on each individual flight to see if there were any business reward seats (2nd example below)

Is it just me, or there's still no option to selectively search for business reward seats via the VFF website, other than going through and clicking day by day / flight by flight to try to find business reward seats?

I'd use seats.aero but it's not that useful unless you sign up / pay, for searches that are months away.

I think you’re right. I’ve given up trying to find award seats because it’s simply too hard. Just redeem them on SYD-MEL.

So currently sitting in the lounge with a lot of others getting on the hooch due to wind cancellations. Theres a fella in a blue wife beater... Dress code no longer applies?

I once entered the VA lounge in MEL in a three piece suit and left in boardies and a blue wife beater.
Staff - very confused.

I’m flying from SYD to Europe through AUH in April, and I can probably only activate my pilot gold memberships a day or two before departure. I’m wondering how long the pilot gold takes to update on the VA system, and whether I can use EY Business Lounge and other gold benefits without a physical membership card.

Also, anyone got any idea how pilot gold works after the status overhaul? How are people supposed to earn the eligible sectors for pilot gold if eligible sectors are abolished after April 2.

Hello,
I am new to this so please bear with me if this is a silly question. I am Australian but currently live in the UK. My parents have just been over for Christmas and flew with Singapore airlines but were getting velocity points for these flights. They have now accumulated a ton of points from flying back and forth. My Dad is wanting to use these points to fly us home for Christmas. When I look on the Virgin website it will not let me look at flights from Heathrow to Sydney. Is this because the flight doesn't originate in Australia? Does anyone know if there is a way to do it? Also I do know that Virgin Australia doesn't fly to London but their partners do.
Thanks
Leanne
