Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

I'm new to this forum (obviously) and haven't had any trouble maintaining Gold status for the past 5 or 6 years (came close to Platinum last year), but to save what amounts to petty cash, my company is now booking me on Jetstar far too often. I may need to make up perhaps 100 SCs early next year. I'm from Melbourne, and it seems to me that the best I can do is go with my wife to OOL on the $85 saver fare. She gives me the SCs, so I can get 60 points for $340. Not as good as some of the calculations I've seen here, but it looks like the best I can do from Melbourne. Agreed?

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

Just wondering if any AFF'ers have done or know of any good status runs in the US with Delta or Virgin America ? I plan to be in the US during February. I will be travelling VA to LAX & then visiting BOS , MCI & possibly MSY , so will pick up some SC's between these location, but will still be 100-150 SC short of maintaining VA GOLD. I am ideally looking for any runs from these locations , but happy to make " a detour" for a decent good value run. Thanks in advance for any advice.

There's a few threads on this over in the Flight Search area Flight Search Assistance but it seems the most lucrative for SCs is to fly First or Business on routes like LAX-ORD-MIA-SJU-NYC ... the key bit seems to be SJU and that route can yield a few hundred SCs for anywhere from $500-1000 depending...

Hey does the FF Calculator app no longer have SJU as a destination? I swear it used to?

AFF'ers,

I have MEL-BNE-MEL booked on this coming sunday in J.

However it is booked as two one way's to minimise time. 45min between flights. Can I safely assume the plane going up will be the plane going back?

DJ313 up

DJ322 back

I know I should have checked when booking but this was during there $200 J fares. :)

Not always as I did a MEL BNE PPP and it was the same aircraft.

You can try flying Delta between LAX and (somewhere in New England). In Business/First Class with one of the "Y-up" fares, you'll earn status at the highest Velocity rate. Because it's Delta, you'll quite probably connect in Atlanta: this will earn 80 status credits for LAX-ATL and 60 for ATL-(wherever). So 140 total.

The challenge is, "somewhere in New England" isn't necessarily Boston. I plugged some searches into Matrix - ITA Software for February 2013, and got US$671 for LAX-ATL-ALB (that's Albany, NY), or US$694 for LAX-ATL-PWM (that's Portland, ME), or $729 for LAX-ATL-HPN (that's White Plains, NY).

It's not theoretical: we did this in May, but going the other way around. PWM-ATL-LAX for two of us got 280 status credits (pooled to Mrs Calroth's account). Also the lobster in Maine is great

Re: Need 4 DJ sectors and 130 SCs by Sept 1

OK, I'm probably pretty stupid, but I need to get 120 SC's before the end of June, what runs out of ADL can anyone recommend???

I'm doing a status run this weekend BNE->MEL->ADL and back again all in J. 37k points + $40ish cost for 200SC. You could do J via MEL then Y direct back?

I am wondering if I get a Business class reward flight from Perth to Adelaide but it goes via Sydney do I get 120 Status credits. 80 for Per to Syd and 40 Syd to Adelaide.

Thanks in advance

Yes. Book it quickly! If you can find one going SYD-MEL-ADL you'll get another 40.

Hi all, just wondering, if you took booked a 2 sector flight with points, in this case a red eye PER-SYD-BNE departing 11:59pm on 30th June, and then SYD-BNE on the morning of 1st July...

would you get status credits for both sectors under the promo as the flight was scheduled to leave on 30th June?

And would you still get status credits if the flight got delayed by 30mins and departed 12:29am on 1st July?

If the flight departed late, you still should, as you were booked on a flight for the 30th of June.

Is your SYD->BNE on the same booking? I think either way, you are most likely *not* going to get the reward SC, as this flight is a scheduled flight for the 1st of July.

Can someone confirm that a flight from Brisbane to Mackay via Sydney (ie BNE-SYD-MKY on one itinerary with flight number change in SYD) earns BNE-SYD-MKY SC's and points, or otherwise?

The T&C's here say:

Status Credits accrual is based on single flight segments that consist of individual flight numbers. An itinerary that involves a change in aircraft but retains the same flight number is considered a single flight segment, whereas an itinerary that consists of a change in flight numbers, even if the same aircraft is used for the entire itinerary, will be considered two flight segments.

Post 171 and others on this thread indicate that only BNE-MKY SC's/points would be awarded. Did it change?

Hi Happy Dude, you're correct, Virgin changed their status credit earning system in January 2013.

Since then, status credits have been earned per sector. So flying BNE-SYD-MKY will earn BNE-SYD SCs plus SYD-MKY SCs.
