The way out of lockdowns etc in Australia

All over the radio today, the shops are packed and day destinations too. I am expecting the PM will curtail our privileges and we will have more lockdown instead.

I think they were the same reports last weekend that the shops were chockers but they still relaxed lockdowns anyway mainly because it’s all about getting the economy back.

I think it’s to be expected that people rushed out in greater numbers after we were told how clever we all were and how we were beating it and doing better than anybody ever thought keeping the virus numbers so low. It was predictable.

I don’t think they will lock us down again unless the virus numbers start to go back up. It will be a good test.

Shopping centre at PQQ today was busy like it is during the Xmas holidays. About 3 months since I was there-couldn't believe people were prepared to stand about 60 groups deep just to get into Woolies

In Victoria we a safe and sound and snug as bugs in rugs

There was a small "party" in my apartment building last night. But hugely noisy. Several apartments complained. All known occupiers were TXT'ed and told to "turn it down". Police were eventfully called to deal with the noise. I don't think they actually attended.

Today's CCTV footage shows "guests" leaving (all of this after midnight). Some catching ubers, some carrying unfinished 6-packs of beer.

What to do? It was clearly illegal under Victoria's COVID-19 laws. Police tell me it's now all too late and to wait until it happens again. Despite the CCTV footage ...

In reality the whole shut down was about managing the numbers to be below the limits of ICU. That was accomplished by 1000 fold. We now need to move forward and manage the infection rate while trying to achieve a different degree of normal. Shopping apparently isn't been seen as a risk as contact is brief. If people observe hygiene practises. It is one reason why I'm in favour of masks - not to protect me the wearer but to prevent spray from others.

I think it’s important to pick your timing. Last week went past a shopping centre - the carpark was absolutely chock full. Bunnings car park was also full and queues of cars to get in and out. That was a week ago - Saturday morning. Late Sunday afternoon it was practically empty. I think I counted 2 other customers in Bunnings when I was there. Good to choose unpopular times to avoid the crowds.

The rate of de-lock-down [??] between states is an interesting study. Doesn't seem related to political party in place, or temperament of the Premier. More related to recent outbreak experience.

In Tas, we are over our out-break (God, I hope) but Liberal Premier still pretty 'conservative' on emergence strategy. I think Tas has always had one of the tightest nursing home visit policies and also the common school-from-home-if-you-can policies; Premier repeatedly repudiated Fed Govt policy urging on nursing home visits. Although they introduced tighter restrictions in the NW during its outbreak, there was no regional travel road-blocks, which would have been relatively easy to do. Very much their own course.

From what I am reading, the Labor opposition here is 100% behind the announced re-emergence strategy, which is great to see.

Interesting take that political affiliation should be a factor in guiding the response...

I’d dare suggest that a different strategy may be seen as a method of separation and differentiation.

Your referring to my message? Read it again and you'll see that I didn't say or even imply that it' should be a factor'. When the point was looking at government responses from different parties, I reckon considering politics would seem to be necessary YMMV. We have governments from the more authoritarian left (its not nicknamed the Democratic Peoples Republic of Victoria for nothing) to the 'conservative' right (Tasmania) to the 'right-wing-death-beast' Federal variety (just ask Malcolm Turnbull 😄 ) and its great that they can more-or-less work together, and in fact 'role reverse' in some ways. Don't be negative, be happy! :)

Our Aged care facility has been disciplined and proactive.
They have now commenced limited visiting arrangements.

We have to book a "slot".
Only one family member may visit and only once a week.
Must produce evidence of a current flu shot.
Must submit to an entry observation and a temp check,

Never heard of this before and neither have any of my Victorian relatives :)

What’s your nickname for QLD?

Do a search on AFF for ' DPRV ' - the use on here goes back years.

I think traditionally it's referred to as the People's Republic of Moreland, which is a local government area in Melbourne with a particular reputation :) I've never heard of Victoria as a whole with that moniker. Progressive state? Best state? But not People's Sates :D

Waiting for the casino, pokies and amusement arcades to open... Hands getting itchy.

W.A. has announced its second round of easing of restrictions from May 18 :-

Indoor and outdoor non-work gatherings of up to 20 people will be permitted, while restaurants and cafes will be permitted to open dine-in services for up to 20 patrons, provided they adhere to the four square metre density rule.

The rule will apply to pubs, bars, community clubs, hotels and the casino.

Up to 20 people will be permitted to attend weddings and funerals, with the cap lifting to 30 people if the service is held outdoors.

WA's temporary regional borders have been reduced from 13 to four, allowing travel between some regions that were previously closed off.

Travel will be permitted between the Mid-West, Gascoyne and Pilbara; the Esperance-Goldfields region; and within the Kimberley.

However, WA's interstate border will remain shut for now.

A 'four phase "roadmap" for the lifting of restrictions has been announced.

Yeah, I just wish the government would at least recommend people wear some sort of masks.
Why ignore a measure that can potentially cut transmission?

Oh right who cares then :)
Thought it was a broadly used term!

Has been discussed widely on here multiple times why broader and regular wearing of masks by the general public actually will probably lead to more transmission of the virus.

I do agree though people who are sick should be though.
