The way out of lockdowns etc in Australia

SA Stage 1 rules for venues are pretty much meaningless. Outdoor dining only, of only 10 people total, regardless of the size of the venue. No alcohol service. I doubt many will bother to open, especially the larger venues where there could easily seat 40 with no close contact at all.

Just curious is the slot timed ?

Of course.. that's what a slot is…. 😁 😁 .. aircraft have slots .. ships have slots…visitors also
Slots must be pre booked to manage and control the volume of traffic

Hi, I have 5 seats QANTAS, Classic Reward Points, Hervey Bay to Melbourne, later Sept, returning early Oct. What are the chances of this proceeding?

A group of 10 of us have paid for Rod Stewart concert tickets in Queensland early November. At this stage we have no idea if the tour will go ahead. It will probably depend on international border restrictions. It looks like interstate flights will be going by then.
It's also going to depend on physical separation (sick of hearing the other description) rules as well.

Good luck with the Rod Stewart concert - sounds good - but depends on international travel so doubtful. I am OK with interstate travel being re-opened by September - very likely. However, flights from regional airports, and their connections, not so certain!!

Something tells me if Rod Stewart really wanted to come to Australia in November he would get an exemption though probably still have to do the quarantine but likely he could pick his hotel.
I think it wouldn't be too much trouble him getting to a regional airport in an executive jet.
But likely the distancing rules may be the stumbling block.

The rate of de-lock-down [??] between states is an interesting study. Doesn't seem related to political party in place, or temperament of the Premier. More related to recent outbreak experience.

In Tas, we are over our out-break (God, I hope) but Liberal Premier still pretty 'conservative' on emergence strategy. I think Tas has always had one of the tightest nursing home visit policies and also the common school-from-home-if-you-can policies; Premier repeatedly repudiated Fed Govt policy urging on nursing home visits. Although they introduced tighter restrictions in the NW during its outbreak, there was no regional travel road-blocks, which would have been relatively easy to do. Very much their own course.

From what I am reading, the Labor opposition here is 100% behind the announced re-emergence strategy, which is great to see.
One thing that has struck me is that in the countries that are handling this well, this is not a political issue. With very few exceptions, the opposition parties (both state and federal, both sides of the political spectrum) in Australia have chosen to support the needs of the people first and put politicking on the back burner. Tehan v Andrews notwithstanding.

NZ is the same. Politics was put aside in the interests of the nation.

The US is a basket case, in part because the GOP blames the Dems, the Dems blame the GOP, Governors blaming Trump, Trump blaming the Governors. A piecemeal response is all that’s available and the ones that suffer are the common people.

UK has a self-imploding Tory party that is more interested in factional warfare than meeting the needs of the NHS.

Whilst I know I can be quick to criticise a politician at times, I’m very glad that we have had enough leadership on both sides of the political divide to know when to stand together rather than tear us apart.

I can’t see a venue concert happening in Australia any time this year...

... which in itself is good politicking. Not much to be gained in the polls when the incumbents have 85% approval ratings.

Though one comment I have heard holds a little truth-"if State Governments had to pay unemployment benefits the lockdowns would be more lenient.

I can foresee the PM being given credit for his handling of the crisis but then being slammed and blamed for the economic consequences.Albanese is already making noises suggesting that is what he intends to do.

If the states had to pay unemployment it would mean the states get to collect and keep most of the taxes :) Maybe NSW and Victoria might be ok with that :)

I think we could see the return of concerts and theatre with local artists this year, if international borders stay closed and new cases stay really low. I was supposed to see Alanis Morrisette on Easter Saturday, was rescheduled for Nov but I reckon will have to be rescheduled again til next year. But I have theatre tickets for Come From Away in August, and i think there is some chance of that going ahead as it is a local cast.

To me, it’s less about where the cast are from and more about how you can socially distance an audience of hundreds, if not thousands, in a theatre or a venue. Bit hard to stay 1.5m from the guy in the next seat over

But as we have seen unemployment costs during Covid have skyrocketed and way outstrip tax receipts.I am sure they would be looking at any way they could reduce the loss of jobs.As it is some of their decisions really do not take the economy into account.
