well, we are one week away from the first Friday in June, and as the weather in many Aussie locations gets closer to Scotland weather, its time to start studying the June offerings.

From the web site, I see three main offers (plus some previous offerings still available for add-in).

June 2022 Whisky of the Month is Ballantine's Glenburgie 17yo. The write up suggests this may be the first of 3 Ballantine single malts that normally make up their blended 17yo.

Also available in June is a peated Bladnoch Alinta.


Now that is going to be a tough decision for me. Looks like I have a week to try to convince myself that I should get both. Hmm, must be creative with my justification. Perhaps a visit to Dan's for something for Mrs NM might help (a nice port, muscat etc.).

And don't forget the offer for Starward Maple Cask (200ml) for both referrer and referred for new members who complete their first purchase by 5th June. Lots of AFF member referral codes in the referrals thread. If you are an existing members and have not added your referral code in that thread you may be missing out of referral bonus drams .

I had an email with an offering of 'Lark Origins' as a pre offer opt-in to those that must have opted-in for the previous Lark Anniversary bottle. Whats left over might be offered up on the first Friday too.

What did you think of the Lark Anniversary whisky? I did not buy it and did not receive an email regarding Lark Origins, but interested in your thoughts.

Yeah the 30th Anniversary was great. Bottle was consumed quicker than anything else I've bought for a while and I'd buy it again if offered another opportunity.

Origins is $70 more expensive so has a lot to live up to. Happy to pay the Lark premium providing it meets expectations.

Tossing up whether to go in for the Ballantine's, not a fan of Highland though. They do a good job of the write-up to suck you in though.

Looks like I'll have to wait until July for the Bladnoch Alinta. So this month's decision is a little easier. Though there is option for add-in of the Tullibardine The Murray Cask Strength 2008, which I do very much like - doubled up on that one after experience with the previous The Murray.

They got me in for a double up on the Ballantine's because it sounds right up my wheelhouse, a bottle of the Lark Origins and after successfully avoiding it, but having now won some recent awards - ive opted in for the Morris Tokay to go for a spin.

The Morris tokay is an interesting one. I get both peat and sweet from it. It's definitely unique from my pov.

Tullabardine Murray from a couple of months ago is probably my least favourite for a long time. But it is Highland and as I mentioned earlier my least favourite style.

And that is the wonderful thing about whisky ... such variety available to address different tastes. While my two favourite regions are Speyside and Islay, I do like to "travel" to other regions as I get bored with too much same-same.

oops. I opted out for the lark, but opted in for the Bladnoch. Better value in my mind. I think this month was the first time I have a seen a 500ml bottle as the whisky of the month. I suspect they were originally planning for the Bladnoch to be Whisky of the Month and Lark as an add-in, but may have come down to volume availability of each (just a pure guess, of course).

But I would expect the Lark to be a decent drop.

The Bladnoch was meant to be an add on to last month's Whiskey Of The Month but shipment was delayed and moved onto as an add on to this month's Lark instead.

I hate the 500ml bottle format of Lark but their whiskey rarely disappoints and a limited edition Lark will no doubt retain or increase in value if I dont want to keep the double up bottle. Also there arent many Lark's at the $140 price point. I also have a Bladnoch coming.

It probably wasnt the most popular opt in bottle but the Morris Tokay that is still on offer is a cracker.

I found the Ballantines an easy drinker and certainly quaffable. Milk chocolate/Easter egg finish is quite lovely.

I don't think I have ever bought or tried an Indian Whisky, so looking forward to giving this one a try. The Port Cask is not shown on the Paul John web site, so not sure if this is a new release or a club exclusive drop.

And from the Paul John web site, it appears all their bottles are either 700ml or 750ml, so not small-fill bottles like a certain Tasmanian distillery, making better value for my spend.

Anyone familiar with Paul John whisky able to offer experiences?

I don't think I have ever bought or tried an Indian Whisky, so looking forward to giving this one a try. The Port Cask is not shown on the Paul John web site, so not sure if this is a new release or a club exclusive drop.

An Indian whisky could be from any of several distilleries. Was your previous experience from the distillery being offered as the August Whisky of the Month?

sorry to hear that. Sounds like my choice to opt-out for that one and opt-in for the Bladnoch may have been a good decision. At least I have 200ml more whisky in my bottle and its a smokey/peated whiskey too .
