The WP shadow

I went from 3700 SC two years in a row to under 200 SC last year. Also shifted nearly 7 figures/year of CC points out of QFF. No call, no email, nothing. It's like I never existed to them :)

In saying that - I've had more flights on Virgin with Shadows this year than shadows on Qantas in the past 2-3 years combined.

You're just a number ;), like the rest of us!!

It seems to be the case that what was once simple and implemented automatically is now enhanced to be fairer and not automatic requiring the WP/WP1 to have to manually request now.

Can a vanilla WP request the shadow? I thought that was a P1 only 'benefit'.

I advised the P1 team of upcoming travel back in July and from that point it was proactively monitored and I could see shadows entered in EF 3 days before the flight. Less than half of them stuck however, including two where seats behind or across were empty and the shadow next to me was taken by a Gold (on the BP) or silver (told me in conversation) status passenger.

If there is a system, it's flawed and broken. Best not to expect a shadow these days. I don't expect anything as a P1 anymore. (Noting I did at least appreciate the P1 team putting in the requests).

I shopped at oo.com.au once and I keep getting emails saying we miss you offering this discount and that discount.

I spent ~$200 with Accor earlier this year and have received email asking where I have been. Come back and we'll make it worth your while. They didn't offer anything but that's not the point.

Is Qantas too proud?

Maybe when you've pissed as many customers off as QF have this is not a simple exercise.
In any case as the boss says, they're back on track and it's all part of the return to profit strategy.

I have asked a few times at check-in, and they have typically been so kind as to oblige. This is generally on reasonably light loads, though.

Interestingly, it must be a 'proper' block when the agent does it, as it then appears as an X in EF, whereas prior to the checkin, it would still show as available using my own credentials in EF (though appeared blocked with those same credentials removed)

Fair enough. I have asked at check-in if the shadow was still blocked, having seen it with an X in EF, but have not asked them to block an apparently available seat.

Called the p1 team for a curtesy block on my domestic flight tonight. The very helpful operator replied yes no problem after checking the seat was vacant (I had already confirmed on EF). She also then checked loadings (I had already checked and confirmed light loadings on EF) and commented it should stick given the light loadings.

EF confirms the shadow is now in place. I'll be interested to see if it remains and doesn't get overridden by check in staff but all in all a very positive SST experience. Now if it could just be the default computer setting again without the need to call......

And I had a 300 metre drive yesterday (granted downwind and slightly downhill, but I know where the speed ramps are on my course), always nice to birdie a 410 metre par 4.
Not bad for an old man. ;) What did you do? Bounce it off the cart path a few times? :p

Would like to know whats going on with the blocked seats no longer automatic. First time in a long time i have had someone sit next to me.

All of my bookings i have no shadow. Wtf qf!

I had the only spare seat in whY between a fellow WP and I on a recent trip SYD-DFW on QF7 - certainly saw some interesting or maybe jealous looks in our direction... However, on the return leg DFW-BNE (QF8) with again WP's in aisle and window, we get a random dude in between us. That flight had plenty of spare Y seats throughout the cabin, including groups of two spares here and there.

The only certainty with QF is the uncertainty.

Thats the thing, the shadow has been a success in 95% of the time on QF domestically. & all of a sudden, all my flights this weekend all the "blocked" seats have been removed, ringing up to get a blocked seat is just ridciulous

My shadow (or lack thereof) tonight has become moot since my upgrade to J came through :).

Platinum One shadow or Platinum shadow?

I don't buy either. Forget what you think you know. It's all luck.

Platinum one shadow, i have experienced it the last 2 years & all of a sudden his week none, just odd, thats all.

When you get used to something particualy week after week after week, you get used to it.

All of my bookings use to show X in EF - some stuck, most didn't ...... not anymore.
