The WP shadow

I have actually, never flown in a middle seat! And don't intend to break that tradition :)
I do not think I have ever flown in a middle seat either and have no intention to start now.

Came close one time when my 23E aisle on an international config 767 morphed into a middle seat on a domestic config 767. :( Thankfully FA found an aisle seat for me a few rows back as I was not too keen on travelling in that middle seat..

I think you mean 23E as there is no 23F on the 25/204 intl 763 config.

If i pick seat 4B on a B737 will I get 2 shadows? Or will only one seat be blocked out? Anyone ever tried this?

Im aware no-one picks the middle seat on purpose here but would be interesting to know people's experiences if they have or any idea if you'de get 2 blocked seats.

No. And extremely naive question. If your only option is 4b that means 4A and C are already occupied. Therefore, no shadow.

I think the question was if 4B was chosen before 4A or 4C have been allocated or blocked, would that create a shadow on both sides of the seat.

I too am not keen to test the hypothesis, as I have sat in a middle seat once. Once!

Yes that is the question. Middle seat for me prob twice only.

Hard to teel re the shadow for me. I had an empty seat flying down to MEL on Wednesday but the mini cabin on the 763 wasn't full.

Is there a SG shadow on some (less than full) international flights too? On SIN-MEL last week I noticed on expert flyer that seat beside me was blocked, and during seat OLCI the F seat beside me (I was in G seat) was unavailable for selection. Of course it remained empty during the flight, as did the E seat - a shadow for the person in D perhaps?

I don't know if it's a fluke, but I seem to get a shadow as a SG reasonably often... of course, they disappear quite quickly if the bird fills up, and certainly ahead of WP, P1, CL getting their spare taken.

I think if I sat in 4B I could easily create a shadow on both sides of the seat.

Lets see.......just taken my 35B with shadow showing:D

Last minute changes?

I put myself in 4D and mother in 4F and we successfully had 4E vacant between us. My mother is NB with Qantas and she was crediting to Qantas.

Is that possible with one PNR?

Or QF systems are smarter and would decline that request ?

Coming back last Monday from SIN I didn't get a shadow as WP and the flight was far from full. It was a nice girl that sat beside me (no FF status, smaller seq number than me) but on balance I'd prefer the shadow!

And judging by who got the awkward greeting, people with a shadow were not WP.

I remember on an AB E-190 flight there were about 2 seats empty in the cabin and I had one of them (as SG at the time).

So from my small sample size, the chance of a shadow as WP is not (statistically) significantly different to getting one as SG. :p

My shadow has held up on my last 10 flights. Some where very heavily booked, with only a few empty seats. Don't think I'll have one tonight for my JASA BNE to MEL but you never know.

I don't want to sound desperate but I would take the nice girl every time. Not that I would be able to strike a conversation anyway.

People are reading way too much into "shadows". It is total luck based on about 47 factors after the initial "blocked" seat.

Anyone experienced a variance in your shadow experience on differing AC types?

I've had shadows on A330 in Y exit rows in seats A&B on almost full flights, but since the A330's have been replaced with B763's on the BNE-PER route my shadows are there at t-80 but have gone upon boarding on light loads.
I have now opted for D to give a little more chance of getting my shadow back!!

Which only reinforces my response. My 'no' was to say no i haven't tried that idea. If all three seats were open there is no reason at all to try getting 2 shadows by taking the middle seat, which the poster acknowledged, meaning I don't think anyone would be crazy enough to take the middle seat in that situation.

Of course, my 'no' could also be no you won't get 2 shadows. There are always people of equal or higher value on a flight who will take the aisle seats.
