The WP shadow

Expertflyer has shown plenty of X's next to me when travelling J.......I've just assumed that's a shadow thingy. FWIW many of them have morphed into a spare seat on boarding.

Can a WP, WP1 or CL select / steal your seat shadow?

Expertflyer might not be 100% accurate in showing a shadow I reckon. Specifically seats that have always been blocked for higher tiered FF.

For example, on the A388, Row 11 is normally shown as blocked on Expertflyer. And if I select 11E and 11F is showing a "X", that doesn't really mean I have a shadow. It could just be a standard block and the seat is still available to other WP or higher FF.

Indeed, since QF started using Altea ans "Notional seats", the seat maps produced by E/F or KVS are only indicative.

Still, it does indicate if a seat has actually been allocated or not.

Sometimes, I would check the seat map on EF, and then move my seat to see if the X follows me around.

I am about to board qf7 44g the mini y cabin in front of economy, I would be surprised if there were no spare seats next to owe's in this area

You may be in for a surprise if EF is correct. (Although 44 A and C will probably be happy.)

I often think shadows follow me around everywhere. Scary.

Personally I prefer an vacant seat next to me but I find the further back in the cabin I am located the greater the chance of a vacant seat next to me.

I was once given an entire row of 4 seats near the back on a ex-HKG CX flight that was 90% full. Ended up giving it up to another pax who started his trip from somewhere in Europe, and clearly could've used an extra few hours of sleep.

I have three A330 transcons over the next four weeks. The shadow is present for the soonest flight, but is absent for the other two which is very, very unusual for me. One of the two where it is missing has a MEL-SYD 737 flight on the same PNR where the shadow is present. I can't work it out. I've tried changing seats and hoping the shadow reappears but it hasn't.

I've been WP for 2 months now and still yet to get the majestical shadow. I figured out the mystery though - I've surmised that it's due to SWMBO having taken every flight by my side since then. Hmmm, if only her work schedule wasn't so flexible

Wonder what would happen if we ever let our SWMBO know that we prefer having a shadow instead.

Maybe not such a bad idea... I'd save 60k+ on our wedding/honeymoon next year ;)!! You know what they say about the sea and plenty of fish...

[Thank Christ my fiancé isn't an AFF subscriber!!!!]

The situation isn't improving. I've made a new transcon reservation for a couple of weeks' time and, again, no shadow. I'm now getting a little concerned I've done something wrong.
