Nice spot to see Warner dominate on Day 1.

Prebooked seats af $25 a pop, so no Randwick Gift (as the members queue and sprint is called)

Century partnership and Davey on the way to his own...86 no

No. of centuries for Warner in the last two New Year Tests at SCG - 101 vs India in 2015 and 122* vs WI in 2016.

August company there with whom to be compared...now 94 n.o. after a cracking 4. Getting ready for his trademark jump...

and that's it...

26.2
Wahab Riaz to Warner, 3 runs, wonderful batting. He'll get it. A hundred before lunch on the first morning. Just the fifth batsman to do so. The trademark Warner celebration, pumped. On his home ground too. Soaks in the applause, fist-pumps the air. Got a good length delivery, worked the ball in the gap at backward point, and a misfield helped him get there. What a knock

Sorry.. saw it and ran... 5 beers before the first 100 would normally be comfortable. Not today..

Was one helluva jump though

12.30pm Not sure I've ever seen something like that before, a fielding side applauding and patting a batsman on the first morning of a Test. The Pakistan fielders walk up to Warner and congratulate him on his hundred.

Because that's what I would expect from gentlemen who play the game :rolleyes::evil:. Given it's only been done 5 times previously and the most recent was one of their own, then I now think highly of the Pakistani's gamesmanship. As I would expect our team to do the same thing if it was done to them...

Back after lunch, turning over the strike nicely in the first 2 overs...

That must have been special to witness moa999.

32.3Wahab Riaz to Warner, OUT, edged and gone! Wahab provides the breakthrough. Full length on the fourth stump. Warner wanted one to third man but Wahab extracted some extra bounce and more pace. Took the outside edge and carried to Sarfraz at head height. A soft dismissal, but a fantastic innings from Warner. Set the SCG on fire this morning

DA Warner c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Wahab Riaz 113 (95b 17x4 0x6) SR: 118.94

Here's what Warner said after his first-session hundred: "It feels amazing (to reach the hundred before lunch). I wasn't aware about the stats (the select group of players to achieve the feat on day one of a Test). The team doctor Peter Brukner told me after I came off.
"I only began to think about it (getting the hundred) when I was on about 80 and there were 25 minutes to go before lunch. Basically I thought I'd just keep working hard to get us into a great position. But with the adrenaline pumping you ride the wave and getting to the hundred was the result."

Well now the team-mates are in at bat, so Renshaw should be quite comfortable now. He should post his 2nd 50 of his career soon....

and no sooner had I typed this:

35.4
Yasir Shah to Renshaw, 1 run, pushed down to long-on to get to fifty. Massive cheers from the crowd. Good knock this

2/203 with Khawaja out for 13 via an inside edge to the keeper.

Whoops, I jinxed them :o

48.1Wahab Riaz to Khawaja, OUT, got 'im. A loose shot from Khawaja. Full and wide delivery outside off, cross-seam from Wahab. Khawaja is rooted in his crease but goes through with his booming drive. The ball takes the inside edge and is comfortably taken. Was not in control of the stroke because his feet was nowhere, his balance was off

UT Khawaja c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Wahab Riaz 13 (40b 0x4 0x6) SR: 32.50

but again the number 13 comes up - superstitious?

Because that's what I would expect from gentlemen who play the game :rolleyes::evil:.
Or had money on Warner achieving the feat?

That performance in the last test to be all out in less than 2 sessions and lose by an innings on a perfect batting pitch is very questionable. One of their most senior players out second ball after 2 premeditated sweeps when he needed to hang around for 10-15 overs to ensure a draw.

This match is as good over now.

Another wicket falls, now 3/240:
59.5
Yasir Shah to Smith, OUT, taken! Yasir Shah strikes. Flatter trajectory outside off, gets it to turn a touch but more importantly, gets some extra bounce. Smith sees something short and goes back to cut. The extra bounce is responsible for a thick outside edge. Sarfraz hangs onto a quality reflex catch, had his gloves in the right spot.
SPD Smith c †Sarfraz Ahmed b Yasir Shah 24 (40b 3x4 0x6) SR: 60.00

Renshaw on 91 Must look up the number of times both openers for Australia have scored centuries...

Me....not a (sports) betting man with real $.

Wouldn't call it so early.....we haven't seen them bat yet

Handscomb now in - a man in good Test form (54, 1*, 105, 35*, 54) so an 83 average - albeit from only 3 Tests and 5 innings but he's looking promising.

An interesting statistic on cricinfo:

No. of batsmen to more runs in first 50 Tests than Smith? Only 2, Bradman (6790) & Gavaskar (4947). Smith bettered Hutton's 4682 when he reached 14 this inns.

plus Warners' 100 was the 4th fastest by an Australian (78 balls)

3/258 with Renshaw hitting his ton, great stuff.
