I was holding my breath whilst Renshaw was in his 90's lest I somehow jinx him.

Great to see his maiden century come up - the future of Australia's Test top order looks pretty good.

65.2
Yasir Shah to Renshaw, 1 run, doesn't matter. He gets there. Renshaw's maiden Test hundred. Wears a smile from his right ear to his left. Worked to square leg for a run. Takes off his helmet, pumps the air, raises his bat, all in glee.

Mohammad Amir struck Renshaw on the helmet back in the 61st over:

60.5
Mohammad Amir to Renshaw, no run, whoa! Pings Renshaw on the helmet. That did not look good. Pakistan's players all enquire about Renshaw's health. That was a snorter from Amir. Superb delivery. Back of a length, gets that to tail back in. Renshaw's first instinct was to sway out of the line but realised late that the ball was coming back in. Tried to duck but this is international cricket, there is no time for hesitation. Gets thwacked on the grille. The team doctor Peter Bruckner is out to have a look at him

From the team doctor:
Here's team doctor Peter Brukner on Renshaw's head blow: "We (Brukner and team physiotherapist David Beakley) attended Matt in the middle and after making sure there was no wound we asked him questions to see if he was alert and orientated. We'll continue to monitor the situation and check on him periodically. Unless we suspect he has concussion he doesn't need to come off and our initial assessment was that he didn't. We'll keep monitoring the situation and may test him at the close if he's still batting then."

You must be enjoying watching Renshaw opening his shoulders now moa999. Three 4's in the last couple of overs and a missed stumping (Handscomb). Pakistani bowlers seem to have no answer as we approach 3/300.

The lowest partnership so far this innings is 41 (Smith & Renshaw). Bodes well for a good first day score - wonder what is that record?

One happy Mr and Mrs Renshaw who could watch this with no family engagement conflicts this Test.

Well to be fair, this may not have been his maiden Test but it was his maiden century....I'm sure they are both chuffed to be there to see it - now they are watching him canter to 150...as he got his 100 off 200 balls and in the next 39 balls he's scored 37 :D

First DRS review of the match upheld :D

77.4
Yasir Shah to Renshaw, no run, long appeal, finger goes up for lbw and Renshaw reviews straightaway! It was a good delivery, no doubt, turned in just a bit after pitching as Renshaw pushed forward. But there's a clear inside edge before it hits the pad and the decision is overturned. Some hope emerged for Pakistan but faded quickly

The 3rd umpire hasn't been troubled today...

New ball taken by the Pakistani's after the 80th over - well, it could be their only hope this afternoon...

Great to see 150 to Renshaw

81.5
Imran Khan to Renshaw, FOUR, flicks away to get to his 150. On the pads and Renshaw helps himself to four. Great batting

Great to see the day finish (albeit 2 overs not bowled) with the Aussies well in control:

87.6 Yasir Shah to Handscomb, no run, defended back and that will the end of day one

Renshaw 167 not out. Suberb.

moa999 will be heading to the exits now...

Another cricinfo gem:

Last time both Aus openers scored 100s in the same inns at SCG - Langer and Hayden vs South Africa

A little research shows it was 2nd Jan 2002, Langer scored 126 and Hayden 105

then another:

No. of Aust openers younger than Renshaw (20 y, 281d) to score a Test century - Archie Jackson and Phillip Hughes. Overall, he is the 7th youngest centurion for Australia

Both are of course deceased :(

Archie Jackson: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/6000.html

There are those who argue to this day that had he lived, Archie Jackson would have rivaled Don Bradman as the greatest batsman of all time. Jackson's death from tuberculosis at the tragically young age of 23 meant that he gave only glimpses of what might have been.

Sounds hauntingly similiar to Phillip Hughes....tragic death at an early age

I wonder what snarky comments Ian Chappell will make about Renshaw now? We are too fixated on fast runs from the openers when that isn't what Test cricket is about.

I am sure I am a member of a large group that would like to see the back of Ian Chappell! I also recall being in India when Greg Chappell was coach & India crashed out of the World Cup in the first stage-was amazing to see the media reaction.

Chappell has forgotten what a renegade he was when playing and has now become the worst nit picker and wowser.

I'd say pakastan team had a little money on the side for Warner effort?
First to call match fixing 2017?

They may be doubling down on the money they won on the last innings collapse in Melbourne.

I was looking ruefully at the $5.50 I saw for the Aussies outright before the last day.

Renshaw looking to put himself into 2nd position on this stat history today: Records | Test matches | Batting records | Youngest player to score a double hundred | ESPN Cricinfo, as he is now 44th on the century one: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/records/282986.html

He's also currently 10th on this stat sheet: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/en...re;template=results;type=batting;view=innings

Saw his parents inteviewed by Neralie Meadows on SkySports last night Pushka :D. Lucky his mum didn't run out on the field after he was hit.
