re: Tier Matching at DJ

I got turned down with this:

Dear sr81,

Thank you for your application to match your Qantas Tier on Velocity.

The Velocity Program has previously matched status tiers on a case by case basis to allow those that travel frequently the opportunity to experience benefits that Velocity provides Virgin Blue frequent flyers. Because of the overwhelming demand, our status tier matching allocation has now been exhausted and unfortunately further claims are not able to be processed.

This opportunity may be reviewed in the future.

Oh well, it was worth a try.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

so just looked at my profile... and i've been upped to gold.

looks like there will be a number of virgin flights this year from ADL-CBR as they have some great flight times.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

I must say since status match virgin have got 90% of my business and the lounge is always empty no fighting for a seat in qantas club!

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Well i was going through my old emails this morning and realised that after 5 months i actually never heard back from Velocity regarding a status match or not.

oh well.. i fired off an email just asking what happened.. thought it would be courteous at least to least let me know!

re: Tier Matching at DJ

I had the same experience and sent a followup a few weeks back. They have offered me the opportunity to join Virgin Blue accelerate (sic) which would

assist you in obtaining the full Velocity Gold status at no additional cost to you, and with no strings attached.
I'm sure the program is good, but the catch is that I'd have to give them all my business and pay money and spend more than $20k/year. I don't spend quite that much with QF now, but I do enough flying with QF to legitimately keep SG status.

The bizarre thing about "the offer" is that it completely ignores the downside risk to me, and the fact that I value lounge access right at the top of benefits accruing from too many hours in economy seats. And then offers me not a lot in return.

But the wording of the offer is a bit odd, and I do need to call someone at DJ to find out if there's actually the loophole that appears: join, don't spend $20k, collect two free gold status memberships, pass Go.

Meanwhile, I'm doing several revenue trips with QF and not going anywhere near a DJ purchase.

What? It only costs ~$9,000 to get Velocity Gold from scratch!

Probably.

This is the link to the program. The detail is in the "Accelerate Brochure", which you can download from there.. but warning: it's an 8MB monster with lots of gorgeous photos to balance out the 50k of text.

It's probably a great idea for people who expect to spend lots of money and don't fly now, but it's hardly an incentive for someone with my travel patterns.

And there's the pity of the response that I got: an opportunity to tweak my heart and mind to their world has been lost. I'm sure they know that, and possibly the person who responded to me has already had her hands tied by the corporate policy makers. **sigh**

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Same story here, never actually got a response from the velocity team. And in the mean time since my application, i have done few trips to USA and 3 domestic ports for business with QF which elevated me to Platinum status. Just wonder how many other potential customers VB missed out on enticing by either not responding to requests or rejecting their request.

I don't know but as a rule they seem to be a lot more responsive to input and feedback than QF ever is :!:

Or you could have both got status the old and hard way, by just flying with that airline. With respect to koro25, if you managed to make QF Platinum you’d have probably easily managed DJ Gold… so this whole entitlement to free status really has to stop.

Every few weeks there’s someone else.

I think it's more there was silence rather than acknowledgement? Out of interest sam004 did you earn DJ gold the "old and hard way" ;)

Nope, but I also didn’t ask for a status match ;)

I do realise that acknowledgement of an email would have been nice, but offers last for set amounts of time for a reason, and this one ended a long time ago, yet people still think they’re entitled to get in late…. many months late, and I can’t think why? :p

By keeping this thread open, it only perpetuates the offer, making members believe they can get in late, time and time again. Of course they do keep on getting shot down, so hopefully a few are learning.

Ahh so you didn't apply for the AF/KLM offer then?

There is no harm in people asking, if you don't ask, you don't receive. No need to close the thread as someone can simply start a new one! (well over 5 months in my case!)

As I pointed out though, people aren't complaining about not getting it, rather not receiving even a reply!

I did, during the promotion period, and I received my status match early, and while it was disappointing my year will end in 2012 while others will end in 2013 as they applied later, I’m not bothered, and not going to complain about it more than the one line I wrote in the thread, and certainly not going to email them demanding I get an extra year! ;)

Some have complained the reply they received after offering to move business travel there wasn’t what they expected (Accelerate)… which seems a little odd if they were looking to put their spend there.

I don’t think there’s harm in asking, I think there’s harm in complaining here when they don’t get it, not all the complaints have been from a lack of correspondence, some have been from "no’s" or suggestions of the "Accelerate" program.

The offer ended.

I guess some were looking for a match without making a commitment. In some cases (e.g. mine), Accelerate is not relevant as status is achieved through personal spend - but that is not really what they are after at the moment.

Agree. And hope another program comes up sometime

The offer ended.

True. Companies run various promotions at various times. This one came to an end.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

I would have but it would have come at the expense of extra luggage allowances, lounge access, fee waivers, preferential seat selection "fly in Y" etc etc. My point is if the aim of VB was to entice frequent flyers from QF, without status match in Velocity, i wouldn't even bother to try them out as I would have to personally give up too many benefits. VB do have the right to change their mind, but must realize that it sometimes means losing out on some potential customers.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

I am seriously tempted to ask QF for a status match for my Velocity Gold that they are also not offering and then start a thread in the QF section complaining about whatever happens next. I doubt i'd get much sympathy somehow.

Good luck to whoever applied for a status match and got it. I am not bothered that I did not apply simply preferring to save my application for a future offer where things may not be the same as today.

I would be interested to see how many of the people who applied for a status match through this offer actually put in the time and money to keep it. My gut feeling right now is the percentage will be very small.

I does not hurt to ask for a status match at any time. They can only say no. Personally I do not think you would get Platinum but there is a possibility for Gold.

And if you did not get a status match and start a thread in the QF forum I would sympathise with you rather than put you down as happens by posters in this thread....

Meh ... I thought the same until I realised that by luck, I would likely have a year to test before devoting traval on DJ for renewal.

I now have 5 months remaining to complete my analysis; My DJ flights since the match have been great.:-|

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Here's a thought. While status matching can obviously be a bit of an expense for DJ why don't they let gold and platinum QFF members have one-off access to the lounge when they book a DJ flight, or maybe a temporary one-month membership?

You'd book your DJ flight online, tick the box saying 'I am QFF gold or platinum', enter your QFF # and it generates a one-time pass for those flights which you print out. When you got to the lounge you show your printed pass and QFF card and you get in the lounge.

Or maybe you can apply for a one-time-only one month The Lounge access card, similar system.

Either way if DJ made you submit your address and phone number in order to get your temporary lounge access they would quickly build up a very impressive database of high-value Qantas flyers as well as giving those QF passengers one less reason not to fly DJ, because they would have lounge access but without the hassles of a year-long status match especially for someone who might not fly very often.
