Considering you’re a PS, you could only hope for Silver, which wouldn’t help that much. But good luck in this endeavour…

Yeah... pity too because will hit SG in a fortnight but don't want to wait too long as i have a VA flight to LAX in March.

I just thought it would be handy to have some status on this flight. Save having to line up in the notorious economy line at MEL and extra baggage allowance.

Applied on the 5/1/11- I think they have more important things at the moment re floods

That’s true, and almost immediately after I posted that, someone told in another thread of being upgraded with Silver membership, so it’s not that bad

You could always write a follow-up email saying you’ll be Gold soon and would they consider doing more, but the offer did officially close a while ago

Agreed. It never hurts to ask as the worst outcome is a NO answer.

Its splitting straws but the offer is closed, what DJ will do is look at each request on a case by case basis rather than the carte blanche that existed when this thread was created.

Anyone can apply for anything at any time. What response they get will vary depending upon a variety of circumstances. I would not expect anyone to give a totally definitive yes or no on a public forum such as this as can circumstances change.

The only way to really find out is to apply and see what happens.

Before, a match was guaranteed, now it isn’t, but you might still be given one if you ask.

Offer is officially still open!

So, on the basis that all they could do was say "no", I sent a friendly note to DJ late yesterday with short info that I've been QF SG since 1995 and including the statement "To date I've travelled very little with Virgin Blue, since so I'm heavily incented to use the QF benefits." OK, I sucked up like crazy. Now that I think about it, "very little" might be "once".

This morning I got a nice note asking for a heap of details, including Velocity Number. Well, for the reason that I've only traveled with DJ once, Velocity wasn't something I signed up for.

The question: has anyone on-list been rejected for tier-match because they only just joined Velocity (to get the tier match, presumably)?

My partner had a day old membership when I applied, no issues, for similar reason like you as she had never flown DJ before but will now!

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to request consideration for a status match with Virgin Blue. I am currently a Gold Frequent Flyer with Qantas (please see attached).

My Velocity Rewards number is xx_xx_xx_xx_.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I then recieved the following reply:

The following information is needed prior to any request being considered:-

I replied, attaching the scanned copy again and giving all requested details. I then got this message (yesterday):

I had exactly the same email the week before the floods and nothing since. I am not chasing too hard as yet, as i figure there are more important things than my status match!

I did all of this earlier in the month - and was sent back the stock standard - if you get your company to sign up with Virgin with 20k+ spend a year - 2 people can be granted gold etc as my company already has a exclsuive agreement with QF this was a no go for me, even though I was applying for myself personally

was sent two lounge passes for passing on the name of our purchasing manager

i appreciated it, but would have much prefferred a status match for my WP i would have switched a number of flights over the DJ as im going to hit PG in the next month with 8 months to go on my membership year....oh well their loss i guess

Did my first two flights as DJ Gold on Tuesday. SYD-OOL-SYD whereas normally would have flown into BNE.

Checkin pole at SYD airport printed an incorrect RED Velocity number on my boarding pass so off to the special service desk to get a new boarding pass. After some calling around it appears I have 2 Velocity numbers :shock: no idea how that happened. Still have to call Velocity to get the Red on cancelled.

Flight up at 830
Off to The Lounge. Very quiet in comparison with the QP. Was able to sit and enjoy the barista coffee. No announcement about the 30min delay so had a bit of a wait at the gate. Uneventfull flight but no special Gold recognition from the cabin crew, nearly empty Y+ cabin and chockers at the back.

Flight back at 1655
As OOL does not have a lounge I had to wait at the gate. Flight back was again empty at the front and very full at the back as well. Also no special Gold recognition on this flight.

Would I fly Virgin again? The "clientele" on DJ is not very appealing I must say. The number of de-thonged (and for lack of better words) "manky" feet has put me off it.

As my next 18 domestic flights were already booked on QF before my status match it will only be for last minute trips that I will be able to go for DJ but I will definitely give them another go on more corporate routings. My QF SG has been secured with 9 months to go in my membership year so I can spread around a bit.
