re: Tier Matching at DJ

I received my gold card and baggage tags yesterday too. They must have done a card print run.
I'm hoping they get some more international partner lounges within the next 14 months!

We have already passed your information to the right department, who will endeavor to respond to you as soon as possible. We really appreciate your patience while we sort this out for you.

The Velocity Team

Obviously they only have a US spell checker there, as well as limited command of the English language.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

After a long wait on the phone today I finally got through to find out what the process is for a possible tier match, its very easy, simply send through a scan/photo of your current Velocity and other program FF cards to :

[email protected]

I also sent the scan of my QFF account summary as well although I believe this is not necessary. Should you be matched, it will take a week to process apparently. No guessing what has forced my hand on this, in the past I tried DJ but found them business unfriendly, I suspect that has changed and I will put my $$$ down to find out!

Markis10,
Many thanks for the Info. Sent off my request 9th December, received a call from Velocity yesterday and the email confirming Gold Status to Jan 2013 arrived this morning.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Did web check in for a flight tomorrow (first since getting status matched and first flight since 2003).

Selected 4C which is a good start.

I would have tried PE (I usually fly Business on Qantas with everything better than a convertible 734) but decided not to until the rogue PE situation has been resolved.

I hope it goes well :)

So is the Offer closed or still open?

And you received 2 years and 2 months membership while other people only received 1 year and 2 months. Perhaps it is best to wait....

Perhaps the membership year was from the start of december... unfortunately mine is at the end.

To answer the question - yes the offer is closed, so you might as well wait because applying won't get you anywhere!

Reason that some people appeared to get a lot more benefit is due to membership years. I applied in Oct, got gold until end of Jan 2012, which is until end of my next membership year plus 2 months. My partner applied at the same time and due to a renewal month of Sept got gold until Nov 2012. So I was just unlucky that my year finished end of Nov, but still if I'd waited until Dec I would have missed the offer altogether!

The explanation of expiry dates has been explained a few times and it is always the same so I don't understand what is so hard to understand.

If the offer was closed in November how come someone has posted they applied on 9 December and applocation has been approved?

Not point in me applying for DJ status as I have no hope in retaining the status. Not interested in having status just for the sake of having status.

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Finally got my card and tags, although only got to Jan 2012 which is disappointing...

Having not flown with Virgin for over 5 years, I understand there is a charge for checked baggage - pardon my ignorance, but am I misled in hearing that Gold flyers don't have to pay the surcharge?

Also, is there *any* availability for Virgin velocity rewards flights? In about 20 minutes of searching between 1-12 months away on a range of domestic legs I haven't found a single available seat to burn my points...

Thanks to everyone who posted to clarify how to get the status match, sincerely appreciated!

Virgin advised that the offer was to run until the end of November but due to backlog it was actually closed earlier than that to get the applications through before the end of the month. But I believe they were still processing them in December. So either it slipped through and was accepted in error, or maybe they had their dates wrong. Probably doesn't matter if you're not going to apply anyway! :)

re: Tier Matching at DJ

Guess I was extremely lucky. I did apply on 9th December although advice on this forum said the offer had closed. But I thought what the heck.
And yes my Gold Status expiry date is January 2013.
Part of the email I received from DJ on 14th December:

We're pleased to officially welcome you to the highest level of Velocity Status Benefits - Gold.
You've been accelerated to Gold in recognition of the commercial relationship that exists between our organisations. We hope you enjoy the view from up here on Gold.

Happy Days!

Sure.

But to be fair I was going to apply at the beginning of December (Velocity membership expires end November) as I wanted to get 2 years and 2 months status but I was advised (more like told) not to bother applying after the offer was closed earlier. Sure I had the chance to apply before the offer closed but that would have meant only 1 year and 2 months status.

Just goes to show you the advice given was not correct.

Keep in mind that this was never an official 'offer', more something they seemed to have been doing behind the scenes. and I imagine they get a constant stream of requests. It's up to Velocity whether they decide to match or not.

... and it was also suggested by several people, myself included, that people could/should still apply and they might get lucky or at worst get a no answer and they would be back where they started.

No argument from me.

Well they say - a bird in the hand…

However, I think that it is reasonable to assume that cards are printed on a monthly batch cycle. (Not only would this seem a reasonable SOP, but posts in this thread seem to demonstrate it.)

So, venturing a further guestimate that for the month of November, (and possibly even December as well) Velocity hit their allotment of precious metal cards for the cycle. And so, they were physically unable to do anymore status matches.

Velocity may also be introducing a new look/logo shortly, which may influence their allocation & ordering of current paraphernalia. (Again, only a guess, based on their outdoor advertising ATM; where every second billboard shows a gold card without the boomerang features on it!)

I would imagine, that on your next DJ flight when you pay a visit to the lounge, a polite enquiry with a front desk rep (when they’re not busy), and flash of your Qantas card at the desk may (or may not) lead to something?

But this would be the case with any loyalty program whether it is Velocity, BMI Diamond Club, SPG, Hhonors, Air New Zealand etc.

The is a lot of evidence on AFF where people have asked for a status match and have been successful. Just because this unofficial 'offer' is closed does not mean that people cannot ask.
