It depends how you look at it. The productivity commission when looking at airport charges used flexible fares, but in reality few buy them.

The same may be the case with tiger, full fares did not go up, but the availability of discounted fares has.

On my regular route sans TT (cbr-mel) QF is up to $129 from $89 Red e-deals, DJ up from $79 to $109 - plus I never see happy hour any more on this route.

Making bold public statements about your competitors pricing is always bold and risky. Always do your research and due diligence!

However there is an essence of truth, without tiger there is less price pressure in the lower fare buckets for JQ and DJ.

Sure does depend on how you look at it. In my mind, lack of sale fares does not equal prices have gone up. I would never consider a bottom bucket sale fare as my benchmark, in the same way I wouldn't consider the end of season sales in clothing stores to be the average price of clothes. Is it really that hard to say....tigers back and so are $39 fares. Oh look! I should put out a shingle and start charging $150 an hour for that kind of marketing copy.

Hey guys, fair go. The prices did go up and Oz needs Tiger to keep the lid on the low end fares of the other 2.

Looking at it another way price pressure happened because QF J* and VA had to move more people around on certain routes.

We had an event on that weekend and some people flew up on TT but we then had to pay for a lot more expensive flight back home and there was no cheap seats at all.

When organising the event should have told everyone to fly either QF j* or VA and forget TT but they made the decision and sent there travel details and I booked them.

Next year have the event in ASP so everyone is flying QF so no TT issues hopefully..

Ummm. The bottom bucket sale fares are the ONLY benchmark for cheap fares! How can fully flexible be considered a benchmark for cheap fares?

Yes QF VA et al had to take TT pax, thus reducing availabilty. So what. Any person after TT exited markets had a siginificant additional cost than had TT remained. Irrespective of whether the pax flew TT (but presuming they were a rational price traveller in a soley economic sense - ie put no value on W*P status etc)
