Hi all,

Firstly, now that Tiger is offering some routes which other airlines are not, and hopefully soon will be integrated a little more into VFF, maybe it's time to give them their own section in "Airline Loyalty Programs"?

I haven't flown Tiger in years, but have decided to give them a go by booking today ($60 MEL-HBA vv). I had a look at their menu.. Check it out: http://www.tigerair.com/_content/la...213.pdf?icn=webtilebottomright&ici=tigerbites

Highlights:
- a decent looking bacon, egg and cheese hot roll ($11)
- a full size bottle of Yellowglen Yellow available! (750mL, $25) and
- a very impressive (considering) selection of snacks available for purchase.

Of interest also is:
- a $0.50 CC fee on all transactions - reasonable IMO. Visa and MasterCard accepted,
- a whopping $25 fee "in the event of the credit card being declined", although surely this is only if you aren't able to pay on any card and
- this little reminder: "our new tigerair menu is not designed by neil perry or served on designer plates. but that means it doesn’t cost $25 for a sandwich. we have however designed our menu with little informative icons. we do what we can to help.". Nice touch!

All in all, well done IMO.

Very interesting Observations.

I too haven't flown with them in years...... i always remember the majority of staff appearing tense & uptight..... but nonetheless if you played by the rules, ie hand-luggage & check-in times.... then more often than not you could score yourself a real bargain.

Interesting they are going more upmarket with their buy-on-board options...... Certainly management at Virgin may be tweeking things for the better.

Now a platinum QFF, my loyalties belong elsewhere...... but i salute competition & salute that finally tiger are getting their house in order. 18 months ago they were on the brink on collapse.... so they've come along way & that's to be applauded.

Ouch!
I had to check that Neil Perry b*slap was real and it truly is ;)

Well spotted Virgin Bart, very funny! I was glad that the 750mL Yellowglen was restricted to couples/friends - no individuals necking.

The breakkie hot roll does look good, and the presentation of their menu is a class act. Not bad for a LCC.

Regarding the 750ml bottle of wine, I wonder if they've done their research and found TigerAir pax travel as a group where they can share such a bottle.

[-]I wonder what happens if it's just the one pax, could lead to intoxication fast.[/-]

On the other note, the Neil Perry remark, I wasn't aware he sold his meals on Qantas? Perhaps they meant Luke Mangan... that's a more realistic comparison.

Of all the coconut waters, they had to go with Kyle Sandilands' one! C'mon Tiger, you're better than that

It's pretty direct, and clear who they are targeting, isn't it. No doubt it'll raise a few eyebrows.

Yes I understand it's directed at Qantas, but Qantas (or Jetstar) doesn't offer celebrity chef-inspired food items for sale at high prices. VA on the other hand...

Unless I'm missing something?

Who owns Tiger? ;)

VA and SIA.

They're clearly going after Qantas, but their argument isn't valid. Neil Perry doesn't sell food on Qantas. Neil Perry doesn't sell food on Jetstar.

Luke Mangan (when I last flew VA) sold over priced food on VA.

To me, perhaps an educated member of the public (assuming Tiger's target market even knows who Neil Perry is) the premise makes little sense. Hence why I'm raising it.

Seems everyone else just wants to reply cryptically though

The way I see it Neil Perry is associated with QF, therefore Tiger, owned in part by VA, is taking a pot at QF. They are not likely to attack Luke Mangan because he is associated with VA. I suspect the thinking behind the comment is that people will associate Neil Perry with QF and have a little chuckle at the cheeky comment. :)

...but as I said Luke Mangan is associated* with VA.

*Regardless of whether he is working with VA today or not.

Indeed that is true, for better or for worse! We live in interesting times.

It is a joke (edgy, true), not an academic analysis. Nothing cryptic about it - I found it funny because it's pretty audacious, but then nothing that hasn't already been said more than a few (hundred) times on AFF - where similar sharp comments about the lack of love for Neil Perry and his inspired small plates reside in multitude.

Personally I've not had a problem with Qantas catering (expect maybe one mince pie too many a certain day) or Virgin's for that matter (although people can find plenty of argument about both here on AFF). I think it makes more sense to call it for a smart-cough joke, than declare it's biased (because of course it is).

Menu looks great - prices fairly standard for an LCC and some smart choices. If I was stuck on a TT flight with a friend I've been very keen to drown my sorrows in a full size bottle of fizz!!

Definitely a step in the right direction for TT. Next step is to earn VFF points and SCs on TT flights.

I haven't flown TT in many years - do the crew all have the same coloured yellow uniforms now? Thats one thing I remember - everyone was a different shade of yellow shirt. Surely smart polos would be a practical solution for their uniform? They're not trying to be anything but an LCC.

'colourfastness' might depend on what washing powder each crew member uses!!

i'm sure the millions on earth who can't even get fresh water would agree with you...gotta love human 'rights'!! lol

OK pedantic - almost everything on the tiger menu is better than the QFi breakfast. Sheesh. We were talking about airline food, not global poverty. You could probably amend millions to billions if you want to be accurate.

I think this whole board could be summed up under the "million on earth etc".

If you are so angry about everything said on here, why do you keep visiting? How dare we criticize anything the airlines do.
