Now there is again quite a few of those with Pitcairn heritage to get their Independence back. The first period ended in bankruptcy and I doubt things have changed.Just as well they didn't get it before Covid hit..

The bond store. When we arrived in 1971 it was still serving that purpose and where we came for our alcohol supplies.

Passport not required, just photo ID issued by an Australian government, such as driver license.

Actually, on a normal day just any photo id is allowed:

That's what Air New Zealand says however they mention that you'll experience a longer delay during processing. It's also worth noting that due to COVID a border entry pass is required and you'll need photo ID to present with it.

When we checked in at BNE the fellow on the AirNZ desk asked for our "passports" 🙂

The first 2 days were extreme,y windy. With ourplace on a point it was very noisy at night.Fortunately they abated a bit on the thrd day and the last 2 days have been very nice.
I apologise for the time this TR is taking.Norfolk Island speeds aren't great plus I can't load photos in my previous way and the alternative using the attach files is very slow and tedious. But back we go to the Kingston area. This is the "port".

Then we picked up some provisions for our night time snack and drove back to the house past the Homestead restaurant. In the daylight you see this fantastic line of old figs.

I watched a program on SBS the other night which was about the removal from the island of self-government in 2015/16. Unfortunately for me, the program makers decided to add some 'colour' by zooming in on two personal stories for 'colour'. One was a rather gross old 'character' - the program actually opened with this obese old guy taking a shower in his underpants, washing them at the same time. I'll leave that there.

Anyway, one of the main reasons given for the 'takeover' was the poor infrastructure on the island (and unavailability of Medicare, social welfare etc). Phones, internet and the port were highlighted. Overall, the Islanders did not come out positively. Sincere and dedicated, but insular (which is probably not surprising!)

Strong connection between NI and Tasmania. In the early 1810s the island was almost cleared of settlers etc and they were taken to Van Diemen's Land and re-settled. Think "New Norfolk" and many were also given blocks in what is now Sandy Bay.
