We had lunch at the Bounty restaurant. This was very good.
We started with a smoked fish pate.It was nice.

Mrsdrron had the lunch size fish dish and I the Bourbon BBQ beef ribs.Delicious.
1606127115356.jpeg.

1606127131736.jpeg.1606127145883.jpeg.

Mrsdrron had a glass of Sav blanc and I being on a penal colony island felt this was the appropriate drink.
1606127231105.jpeg.

Back for our afternoon rest.Had a different bird visitor.
1606127280540.jpeg.

In that last pic of the previous post I could here birds in the bush.I did my generic bird call and this fellow came out and posed.
1606135084494.jpeg.

Up to Mt.Pitt again and a short walk down the track.
1606135140579.jpeg.1606135163081.jpeg.

1606135179039.jpeg.

Couldn't spot our house but this was close.
1606135225462.jpeg.

Nothing at the airport yet.
1606135262478.jpeg.

We then drove down country road to the intersection with Taylor's road just outside Kingston.Evidence of an old settlement. Also evidence that the resident ducks have been well fed by tourists as just opening the car door had them heading straight for us.
1606270579232.jpeg.

But soon retreated when it was obvious we were empty handed.
1606270623478.jpeg.

So to the ruins.
1606270762211.jpeg.1606270776228.jpeg.

1606270804987.jpeg.1606270823239.jpeg.

1606270850926.jpeg.1606270867606.jpeg.

1606270896644.jpeg.

The last was probably the site of a mill. This dam was constructed for that.
1606270965430.jpeg.

The dam now is used to resupply the water tankers but also as a place for ducks.
1606271084889.jpeg.

Also poultry running around.
1606271124533.jpeg.1606271146131.jpeg.

Taylors road lined by pine trees.
1606271198700.jpeg.1606271214769.jpeg.

1606271247525.jpeg.

Back into town. Now i thought I might try their fish and chook shop.No chooks available since march. But also the place is only open a few nights from 1730 to 1900.So no lunch.
A quick look at the hospital.
1606271384005.jpeg.

Then to the airport where you leave your rental car unlocked with the house keys inside.

Take off.
1606303829628.jpeg.1606303845431.jpeg.

1606303863158.jpeg.1606303879583.jpeg.

1606303907524.jpeg.1606303925791.jpeg.

Soon after lunch was served. This time I had the chicken and mrsdrron had the beef as the chicken was spicy.
1606304029447.jpeg.1606304044354.jpeg.

Now I did mean to take a pic with the foil off but in another senior moment only took one of the nice full glass of pinot noir.
1606304130932.jpeg.

And into BNE passing the old International terminal.
1606305853166.jpeg.1606305870691.jpeg.

1606305890065.jpeg.1606305904427.jpeg.

I was trying to get the Air Kiribati plane but only caught it's tail.
1606305961616.jpeg.1606305975792.jpeg.

1606305995254.jpeg.1606306014242.jpeg.

1606306031210.jpeg.

And I guess an ex VA bird waiting to disappear.
1606306086219.jpeg.

And that's all folks.I enjoyed the break. For some it would be too slow and boring but if you like nature and particularly bird watching it is fine.the history is also interesting.

Wifi was included in the house we had. There was a local phone we could use in the house. We cant remember about our mobile phones if they worked or not  I had pre booked lunch/dinner reservations before we left home.

Some places have now got NBN satellite and others will include a small amount for free.

About two months ago they got a 3G/4G phone network so you can now buy a mobile data plan that makes slightly more sense. https://www.ni.net.nf/plans/mobile/

I booked Seaview which does offer free wifi and was the cheapest place using Amex travel credits, otherwise I didn't know what to do with that $200 that comes with the card. It seems centrally located and we will probably rent a car for a couple days. Def going to do Margarets Birding tour! Do we need cash or do most places take cards? For shopping, cheap cafes (we are not foodies, cheap and cheerful type), markets, etc.

You definitely need a car - there is NO public transport. ( Most rental places come with a car included. ) I see Seaview is in " town " Apart from the "shopping centre" there are no foot paths. Driving is easy and you will get to see the whole island. Definitely have lunch at the Golf Club, and the Bounty for lunch is good. The "markets" were a bit of a disappointment !

Yes the place I booked gives 100Mb WiFi per stay! I will be picking up the Tourist Sim card. I just booked the car and accommodation. I picked the accommodation (A-Frame Chalets @ Mokutu) with the latest cancelleable date which is 4 days before we arrive. If the trip gets cancelled for anything related to Covid, my travel insurance won't cover!
