To Tattoo or Not To Tattoo

If people want to have then go for it, if I don't want to have someone working for me who has a display of them then that needs to be respected in the same way.

Of course those of higher BMI are regularly denigrated by society and sometimes here.We just put up with it.
You mean like the obese threads that pop up on AFF regularly? No one could possibly be offended by the obese comments?

Of course we just put up with it. People who simply think the sole reason for obeseness is overeating are sadly mistaken and poorly informed.

But by your standards it's okay for people to have those opinions and to express them. Otherwise that would be hypocritical.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Please show me where I have denigrated anyone?

I am sure you can re-read the post I have quoted, specifically where you have stated those against tattoos can go get a life.

Yes we feel its OK for people to have those opinions and express them re obesity just as we feel it is OK for people to have those opinions re tattoos.

Re: The totally off-topic thread

Of course it would be either illegal or immoral to discriminate against someone on the basis that they had chosen "decorate" their body with tattoos. That said ..... in my opinion they <have issues such that> I would do everything in my power to have nothing to do with them.

Its one thing to have an opinion, its another to use that opinion to make another person feel bad. And to be honest, some of the things said in this thread make me feel like cough.

I wonder if that's right. I'm sure a firm could advertise that job applicants have no visible tattoos. Depends on the job, the nature of the tattooes and their placement. Most firms would object to tattooed tear-drops or stars on the face, or KILL on the fingers. Prison tatts would be a no-no too. I guess most tattooed job applicants for white-collar positions can work out what the problem might be if they're not getting second interviews.

It seems, once again, that a few people are struggling with the forum rules.

PLEASE stop attacking each other and stick to the actual topic.

IF you have a problem with an individual post then report it rather than taking pot shots at each other. My five year old granddaughter knows the difference so it is reasonable, IMHO, that educated people on this forum also know the difference.

Well, the tattoo I was thinking of getting is exactly your avatar. But I chickened out.

And I think the 'mentally defective' comment should make everyone feel like cough. :(

.... 'mentally defective' comment should make everyone feel like cough. :(

Not ignoring the heat of this debate, but simply to add a lighter note - someone once described me as being "mentally defective" - when I explained to them the term "positioning flights" and why they are a sound tool in the FF world :)

There are obviously divergent opinions expressed here and elsewhere but I accept the decision to have tattoo is an individual's choice.

Would children (age?) be allowed to have tattoos? Do they need consent?

Re: The totally off-topic thread

I remember in the army that Warrant Officers often had visible tats - on the forearms. Officers did not. I don't know if there were rules?

Probably. My son is a naval officer and had to request permission to grow a beard. There are rules. Only a full beard is permitted. One rule is that it be inspected by his CO after two weeks to ensure it looked decent. I gather that if it was uneven or on the scrawny side you had to remove it.

I am actually quite envious. I tried to grow a beard when I was about his age. It was just a joke - appalling effort even after four weeks. I gave up in disgust.

One of my employees, a lady of 50 years decided to get a small tattoo on her wrist. A small infinity sign. While I was surprised, I was supportive of it, when she showed it to me after the fact.
Just goes to show that you can't judge people and their reasons. If it makes her happy and is not causing problems at work/life then it's every persons private decision. The lady is an amazing employee, loyal and extremely responsible.

That is a terrible shame. From what I have seen, you are a caring and genuine person. I actually encouraged someone quite close to me to get a tattoo. It has given them a bit more strength than they previously had. Maybe you need another tattoo to remind you not to take on board other people's nastiness
