I read somewhere a while ago that Qantas are cutting down the number of toilets on their planes for all classes. I flew QF2 in business a few weeks ago and there are definitely less than on Emirates. Am I imagining this or have they actually replaced some toilets with seats on the planes. Surely this is not the way to win over customers.

Quite some time ago (2013).
The 4 toilets across 64+35 is 25:1 for J/PE.
Economy can be as high as 60:1 however!

The only queues I've ever seen is during the changing into / out of PJs at the start/end of flight.

I've always wondered why QF can't setup some form of temporary change room in the bar area - couple of curtains and done.

The 787 looks like it has a slightly lower 23:1 ratio across J/PE

Again you could possibly curtain off an area near R1 (subject to crew need to access the galley)

Yep, last time i went to LHR in J me and this other guy were waiting to get changed while someone was actually using the toilet. After a good 10 minutes the crew just did as you suggested and turned it into an area for me to change in. On the return, i got changed super early to avoid this happening again.

I wonder if people might just get changed in their seats now that the upgraded J suites offer far more privacy over the Skybeds?:lol:

I have often wondered the same thing...
How hard would it be to set up a removable curtain arrangement?
It would be so much cleaner too as balancing on ones shoes while putting a foot in each pyjama leg requires a lot of flexibility!

ill fess up to having changed in my seat in the Skybeds on a 380 - just used a couple of blankets and did it during the climb when no-one was walking around:)

Ive also changed out of my pjs into clothes in J.
I must admit I wear pretty comfy pants and top, so not difficult to get back on
I doubt if anyone even noticed what I was doing as I do it while the cabin is still dark.

Plus it's easy to to swap pjs for pants under the blankets.

Its an well practiced procedure really, one that I've perfected as I hate trying to change in the toilets, especiallly in the morning rush before landing.

me too especially when the lights are all off

It is a ridiculous waste of toilet time/space for these to be used as changerooms. QF should either provide other spaces for changing into pjs (such as the A380 lounge or some curtained-off arrangement in some other spaces) or just ditch the pjs altogether.

I have done this too.

As long as one uses discretion, it's not that difficult with a carefully located blanket.

If someone does work out what you are/were up to and you were discreet, is still unlikely to cause an issue anyway.

I used to and thought the pj change too much fuss. But it really does make a difference in comfort and it's nice to change back into fresher clothes.

But I am so pleased to read that people do this in their seats under blankets. Next time...
