I flew QF19 SYD-MNL yesterday on a 333 in J, and was surprised to find that the passageway from the cabin to the coughpit is now locked off, and with it access to the forward toilet The cabin crew pleaded ignorance as to the reason for this: Does anyone have any intel on what is happening here? If this is a general thing it could also apply to the 332's and 789's which have a J toilet in a similar position Call me fussy, leaving only 1 toilet for the J cabin is not acceptable and is a significant disincentive for flying QF J on longer-haul routes.

(There has been no change to the seat maps on the QF website reflecting this)

I didn't know there was a door there. Is that the door from the crew rest area?

IIRC. Tech crew rest is directly opposite the toilet. Hoping we’re got going back to one J C/L toilet. Trips on the A330-200s with only one J c/l toilet were a nightmare

Yes, that's what I was wondering. Can the door of tech crew rest compartment be latched to the wall on the toilet side when fully opened?

Whilst they certainly should have more than one toilet for J, it was always an appalling position to have it. The 380 enclosed the toilet and crew rests behind a door, and similar should exist on all of the types if you are serious about security.

Conceivably this is some kind of anti-COVID measure, so that pilots do not have to share a loo with pax; but given that everyone on the plane is ipso facto fully vaxxed and tested negative, it seems it bit extreme even for that.

In late January I flew SYD-HNL in a 332 and the forward business lavatory was available.

From SYD, most PR flights are now back to its A333s (and MEL, while A321s, recommences with A333s - supposedly - in July 2022) so the simplest solution for the future is to abandon QFi and instead use PR, whose J fares can often be cheaper with access to the 'forward' toilet you seek.

The PR A333s are 1-2-1 with the airline normally offering a choice of Western, Filipino or other Asian meals.

So you're completely familiar with every countries rules and regulations around COVID including where toilets, amongst other things have had to be blocked. Good to know.

Good to hear the last two responses...hopefully my experience was an exception.

I flew SYD - SIN and SIN - SYD in Late February and Early March respectively on the A333. Flight out had front toilet blocked, flight back had front toilet available.

Singapore had many restrictions including blocking toilets, blocking rows around crew seats and crew rest and crew wearing goggles. I believe the changes stopped whilst you were away.

Have just got off the return QF20 flight, and am happy to report that both toilets were available; my previous experience was apparently an exception. With just 6 (!!!) of us in J was very nice indeed. (the QF19 referred to above had 21 in J).

DRW to MEL on QF10 had both (forward + back) lavs available a fortnight ago. On a unrelated note, the connecting domestic flight to BNE although didn't have the FAs enforcing the forward lav for J passengers only rule.

If you'd correctly read my post, I referred to one airline, not multiple countries.

It must annoy you that there are better airlines than QFi. Way better, including many from Asia.
