Tokyo Haneda slot - how will Virgin Operate it?

No available ARFF will mean the airport remains closed.

Also I imagine NRT will be prioritising arrivals over departures so VA will be at the back of the queue - and imagine the crew are out of hours already.

The main issue will be gate space at NRT. They seem to be sending departures out regularly which will help as the tarmac will be congested.

There’s a huge number of intra Japan flights into HND and it appears a blanket divert to origin has been implemented which will reduce the impact on NRT.

Will be interesting to see how VA recover this.

Which for the planned departures makes sense, as I think they will get a flood of arrivals if HND is closed overnight.

NRT curfew may save the day.

Yes having a curfew to waive plus a huge and below capacity airport will help. It’s not like Japan is short on airports either, the country is covered with under-utilised airfields as Japan tried to build its way out of its economic stagnation.

Plus all the JASDF and even USAF air bases.

Wonder if they have ability to organise ground handling as a contingency at NRT. Get the pax and bags off at least, people can get on with their holiday/onward travels. Yes an inconvenience but not insurmountable.

Thinking about it a little bit, the "best" scenario may be (assuming crew hours available) to outright cancel VA78 tonight ex-HND, have crew positioned over to NRT to ferry empty back to CNS.

-8IA is scheduled to fly BNE-CNS tomorrow morning anyway, that can turn in to VA77 to HND and -8IC pick up (late) the rest of the day ex-CNS that -8IA was meant to do. Or just turn -8IC back to HND/leave in Japan overnight and cancel VA78, and VA77 tomorrow.

I’m sure Swissport will be able to help amongst others. NRT ramp staff will be earning some overtime tonight.

Every major handling agent at HND also operate at NRT so I wouldn’t be surprised that VAs HND agent was easily able to receive them at NRT.

Many of the NRT diversions were long haul JAL/ANA flights who have their own handling.

Looks like a plan has been filed to depart NRT for HND in 25 mins and then turn the aircraft to CNS with a 3 hour delay. Good work, they’re all over it 😎

I highly doubt HND will be open in the next hour… ARFF are still at the crash site. Ready to be proven wrong.

Zero chance of this happening.

Whilst the fire is out the fire rescue is still be the wreck:

HND needs to reopen first before there is a chance.

VA77 was originally estimated to depart NRT at 21:45 local time before being delayed to 22:15 and looks like it has now been cancelled, with tomorrow's flight from CNS also cancelled

Today’s VA77 to HND has been cancelled as a result.

8IC is scheduled to position NRT-HND at 1:30pm, before operating VA78 back to Cairns tonight.

Has it all gone well with the VA enforced changes for the flights to and from HND?
