TomCat's new digs!

We're fan people as we hate aircon, except for the 2 or 3 super hot or super cold nights per year.

Was thinking of not having ducted but individual units in a couple of rooms only - not decided yet. Plus Ive read a few times in new builds that some installations, you cant run both upstairs and down at the same time, no idea if true but maybe its the type of system theyre installing.

Ours will only be upstairs due to the type of system.

I have only recently found your thread and have been reading along with interest. Such an informative thread thanks @blackcat20 and @TomVexille!
Are you getting zoned aircon?
All I know is that it's a Braemar Evaporative unit. I don't think its zoned. However our heating is zoned, plus we can close vents if we dont want to heat certain rooms.

Anything special for windows? Sealing, double glazing ect. We know our current home, know January afternoon sun sucks where we're planning on having our bedroom for new build so Im going to spend time looking up windows, glazing and treatments. I also want windows in the living and kitchen that open up as much as possible because we get a fantastic cooling breeze most afternoons that will go through the entire house.

All windows will be double glazed, then roller blinds for inside. I'll add sheer curtains later.

Windows are all awning due to the double glazing. They were sliding as standard but awning at the front originally.

Just got word from our site supervisor that the slab will be poured early next week :D

Any style of window can be double glazed, shouldn't have to be awning.

Great news on the slab!

Who knows then, but we were told they had to be awning...and we essentially got that upgrade for free so I can't complain.

How does fly screen work with that style? I keep telling hubby we need to visit a couple of window stores.

Not sure, but we have screens to all windows as part of our bushfire pack.

We had evaporative at the last place. As it was over 4 levels we had it ducted into the top and cooler air dropped down. Need to keep windows open though or it can get a bit moist if conditions are right. We had no complaints with it though and it worked well.
We’ve got double roller blinds in the apartment; one sunblocking but see through and then a heavier one over that. No drapes. We like the uncluttered look but most of the people around have sheers and drapes or sunblock blind and drapes.
Exciting about the slab pour! Can’t wait to see pictures.

We figure the same, the cool air will be pulled downstairs if we have lower windows/doors open.

I quite like the look of sheers, will just hang rails ourselves. We also need to do our own towel rails and toilet roll holders as they arent included

Promise there will be pictures, will be checking it out on weekends.

Ordered this light yesterday for our front entrance. I'd been eyeing off another light for months but couldnt justify the $400 plus they wanted. This will go nicely with the white/timber theme we seem to have fallen into.

Scandinavian design. Clean, stylish and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. We love it too and are looking to use this style when we refurbish our final apartment. That is all.
