TomCat's new digs!

we don't have any in the shower - we were a bit scarred by leaking showers in the past.

Advice to Tomcat - go overboard with wet sealing!!
Yes, it was a niche in the shower that that tiler was not happy with - think it was also something to do with the grouting. He did an excellent job and even ground down some of the tiles that weren't dead flat/even.

.........By the time we came to do the extension and second house I was a total control freak who trusted no-one and checked everything (or thought I did).................

Excellent advice.

Definitely trust no one in the building industry. My father was the building industry equivalent of a Red Adair and the screw-ups he had to rectify were so frequent (and sometimes so disastrous) that anyone building a house should scrutinise everything their architects / builders / tradies do meticulously. Irrespective of how good their reputations are you need to check and recheck everything they do and make sure you get any changes costed in writing. Have a tape measure with you and get in the habit of using it. And don't fall for the story that they changed something to make it better - that's always double speak for the fact they don't want to rectify something they screwed up. When building our house I had a face to face with every tradie before they started and made them sign an acknowledgement that they understood that even the most minor variations to the plans / specs they thought advisable had to be agreed to by me in writing in advance, with no exceptions. Only one refused to sign so I sacked him on the spot.

Well the land development is coming along nicely. The stage adjacent to ours has titled which means our street actually exists now. The road through our stage has been pegged out and services are being installed (eg stormwater drains).

Selection appointments are booked in to pick out all the fun stuff like bricks, tiles, taps etc. And we've already purchased the pendant lights that we're going to put over the kitchen bench.

How exciting for you. It's great when things start happening. It looks like the area was a farming one before subdivision - green paddocks.
I like the lights - very swish.

Yes, my understanding is that it was farm land, plus our block will back onto that paddock in the photo.

Just locked in our appointment for the build contract today so things are well and truly moving along.
