About time:!:

Finally a leader with back bone.

And ETS voted down in secret ballot.

That will cause some issues.

Malcolm was for once very impressive on radio this morning

Hmm this thread could become quite interesting :)

I imagine that political viewpoints in here are as diverse as our reasons for traveling....

My main reason for travel is to attend conferences and meetings on climate change related science

While not a huge fan of the ETS, I am stunned that such a divisive leader has been selected... I find it interesting that the middle of the road candidate, Joe Hockey, was not elected... (but yes... much less backbone!)

One interesting question is what will Malcolm and his crew do? How can he speak so passionately on climate action and remain in the Liberal (note the now big L) party?

Time to reform the Australian Democrats (Libs with a heart?)

If Malcolm did decide to stick around, I'm sure he could (if he wanted to) have ALOT of fun in destabilising the whole Opposition, after all 41 of his colleagues did back him in the end.

And if the event MT decided to leave, I'm sure those 41 supporters of MT will flow into into Joe's corner. Then if we add those 6 others who initially voted for Joe, that's 47 for Joe and 35 for Abbott...... these are scary numbers for Abbott regardless. This is going to be one turbulent ride for the Opposition, and if the polls don't improve substantially ... do expect their 4th leader is two years!

How appropriate that this thread is posted in the "Playground". Completes the Kindergarten picture.

You mean a leader who will like to mix politics and religion. (they do that in Iran as well)
This man has a SERIOUS conflict of interest - politics and religion:rolleyes::shock::evil:

Me thinks you've hit the proverbial nail on the head. It was good news that Joe got rolled first up, it means that he will be around in a stronger position for the next leadership spill, and there will be one before the next election !!!!!!!

Cheers Dee

Of course even more interesting than the 42-41 vote was that there was 1 Turnbull supporter absent sick and 1 abstension.
I have to agree with an unnamed Coalition MP whose comment "We have cough*** ourselves" probably sums up the position perfectly.
At least there may now be a debate about the ETS which after all is a taxation bill that is hoped will change peoples behaviour. No more,no less.

Couldn't agree more. I'd prefer Hockey over Abott, but at least there is no more Turnbull and no more ETS:D:D:D...for now.

Well for example, when a merchant wants to tax me (but more stated as a surcharge) for using an Amex, I automatically change my behaviour and flip out my Visa. If one day, due to the ETS, that my utilites have gone up by 10%, I'm going to go install some solar panels and make sure I get a 2nd rain water tank.

Ah but there are many here who will still use their amex.
And i have already installed solar panels. My water tank was installed when it was still illegal to do so according to our local council.

Not disagreeing with you drron ... just logical that a tax / surcharge or a basic increase in something, can alter one's behaviour (not necesarily everyone's behaviour) ... whether it be the usage of Amex or something else.

and the two who are likely to be elected on the weekend who are moderates (ie Turnbull camp)

In relation to the ETS, if the government was serious about doing anything it could change behaviour now without raising a new tax.

Remove the GST on green power/allow nuke power/mandate 20% ethenol in fuel.

The main reason I dislike it is it appears to be ideologically driven and not aimed to bring about change.

KRudd just wanted to be the big man at Copenhagen.

(My very humble opinion)
