Traffic infringement in Spain

I got 2 infringements in London recently (24 & 26 in 20mph zones, cameras are everywhere) . Car company charged GBP68 each for forwarding to me. Have returned forms to UK. Suspect will end up getting the fines as well but may get a speed awareness course (to take place in middle of night)
I ended up getting one speed awareness and one straight fine (you can only do the course once every 3 years). The course was at 0900GMT so quite civilised for me. It took 2.5h but was well run and informative. The cost is only just less than the fine but no points-not sure this is relevant to me.
The particular thing I found most surprising is that if you have 2 cars, one going at 30mph and one at 31mph, then the second is still travelling at 8mph by the time the first has stopped.

I find that sort of stuff interesting, so playing around with figures from this site Stopping Distance Calculator (which I can't necessarily vouch for) the difference in stopping distance at 30mph(13.11m) and 31mph (14.0m) is only 0.89m, much less than your car separation distance when driving (incidentally stopping distance @ 8mph=.93m so verifies the 8mph "still traveling" example) so no impact.
But include 1sec "reaction time" and even if each car is traveling at the same speed, you've crashed unless there was a >13m gap. No wonder rear-end collisions are the most popular.
Sorry OT

I wasn't suggesting you were. The simple point i was making is that cancelling or blocking a card does not protect you from charges you have incurred or may incurr even after the card is cancelled by you.
This is correct.

Same as with direct debits for things like subscriptions people no longer want (the gym for example). Cancelling the card doesn’t remove the direct debit liability if you have signed a contract.

Same with these other charges. As long as the card was valid at the time, the charge will come through.

Of course if you have a refund due… then you get problems!
