Being a HH newbie, I thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of the AFFers on this forum for their advice on what to do with a relatively small amount of points. I don't normally stay at Hilton group properties (especially domestically as they're usually too expensive) but took advantage of HH Gold status via Velocity for a recent trip to the US. Stayed at several Hampton Inn properties and now have just under 23,000 points thanks to the current 2000 points/night HH promo.

I have no idea whether this would get me anywhere near a free night's stay domestically (I doubt it), next two lots of domestic travel will be Canberra and country/coastal NSW, and not likely to be doing any international travel for at least 18 months, so thought I might as well do something with the points as I'm unlikely to be earning any further points for quite some time, by which time my Gold status will have well and truly expired anyway. Have had a look at the HH Shopping Mall and could cash them in for $45 of WW Wish gift cards LOL, or transfer 20,000 across under the current Velocity promotion which will give me 3600 Velocity points - neither of which are great value of course, but better than letting them sit there and expire I guess!

Any suggestions/thoughts very welcome :)

The transfer rate to airlines is very poor. Those points could be enough for 1 nights stay or 2 nights stay with points + pay in somewhere like Thailand or Malaysia.

Have you checked any local Hiltons?

Yes, the transfer rate is rather pitiful. No likelihood at all of travelling to Thailand, Malaysia etc at all, but thanks for the suggestion.

There's only one Hilton in Perth AFAIK (Parmelia Hilton) - have checked a variety of dates and on most a standard queen room starts at around 45,000 points. Have come across a couple of dates where it's 24,000 points, but to be honest, going into the city to stay the night doesn't appeal one iota - we never go to shows or dine out or do anything else in the CBD for that matter, so there's no reason for us to go in there (apart from Mr J having to go to work LOL).

Personally I would keep the points in Hilton account. Transfer 1000 Amex MR rewards once a year and keep them active.

Good suggestion - I'll have a look at that, thanks.

The limit to transfer Hilton to Velocity is 100K at a time unless you call. Does anyone have experience transferring two lots of 100K within 24 hours or do I need to call? I'd rather not have to buy Skype credit just to call Hilton.
