Does anyone know of a way to transfer Amex points to someone else's Qantas or AA account?

Can it be done though Starwood or something?

Hmmmm.

I don't immediately think that it's possible, but if you are crafty then it might.

Have you tried registering your friend's AA/QF/Starwood account with Amex, and sending a small test transfer of points to see that it works? Not all companies cross reference the surname.

We're in dodgy territory here though, so the auditors may of course come chasing...

I don't want to enter dodgy territory.... only want to do it if it can be done legitimately.

Apparently you can transfer Starwood points between accounts as long as the account holders live at the same address. So if you have Amex MR points then transfer these points to your Starwood account at a ratio of 1,000 Amex MR points = 330 Starwood points and then transfer the Starwood points to the other persons Starwood account. From there you can then transfer to AA, SQ etc. Remember that 20,000 Starwood points = 25,000 AA points.

More in this thread, specifically posts #4 and #6. I have yet to test the transfer but may need to do so sometime in the next 2 years.

I don't know how legitimate it is, but I have definitely done this on a couple of occasions - ie transferred Amex MR points to another person's VS/DL account. In MR you register the external FF account number - I don't think there is a name. It worked without a hitch, with some partners it's almost instantanous. Only caveat is that this was from a US Amex MR account - not sure if they're different instances and operated separately....?

It might work by transferring your Amex points into your QF account, and a "family" transfer of QF points from your account into their account. From memory, you can only transfer points this way once a year.

From what I understand, with regards to transferring Amex points to QF FF, the name on the Amex card has to be the same as the name on the FF account. So the only option, like already suggested, is to transfer them to your account and then do a "family transfer" between QF accounts. However, this can only be done up to 100,000 points, once a year.

"Family transfers" are only legitimate when the other person is actually a family member.

Well, you don't want to be the first person pullled over and then use the excuse that everyone else is doing the same. Just need to remember who lurks on these forums....

I have been looking at switching to Amex and switching points through starwood to AA.However on reading the detailed SPG T&C's it says that points transferred from credit cards can not then be transferred to other program participants but used only for hotel awards. Is this policed-certainly would be easy for them to notice my activity.

There is no issue getting the points onwards

Dave

You are able to transfer up to 50,000 points p.a. from some AMEX cards to another person's AMEX rewards account.

I don't know if this is just a Platinum Charge Card benefit? That is where i got the form from.

I hope not! I will not be earning points from Starwood properties in the near future so Amex MR points will be the only alternative for me.
