Travelling to Hawaii

I believe the Qantas dreamtime seat is still used. A favorite of mine for some reason.

Because it's at least as comfortable as the skyslope.

The dreamtime seat is still great. What's not great is the price QF charge for it.

As I read it - the OP was on a cruise from HNL back to SYD so needed to fly from Australia to Honolulu - unless I am reading it wrong somehow

But anyway - I agree that you would definatly want your Travel Insurance lined up properly as I agree that with the small A330 fleet that Air Australia have that an aircraft going tech somewhere could really wreck your plans. Having said that - Strategic and Air Australia haven't had a huge amount of cancellations and delays for their size - although Strategic/Air Australia havent got a huge fleet or network so difficlut to get stats on on-time performance....

There are horror stories, in particular the 330 going tech from HKT from memory.

Nothing:?: Let's just say we have a difference of opinion here.

Better then the other 767 products that QF have on offer. They may be dated, but I would take 50 inches over 38 any day.

No argument there at all on both points. But QF have never flown domestic configured aircraft to HNL. (JQ do!) What is galling is the price they charge for a very old and dated J product (remember these are Mk I Dreamtimes with the 6 inch screens and a very small looping selection) and what is a really shabby old Y product with no personal IFE at all. This isn't what people expect when they fly Qantas international in ... yes it's 2012.

Agreed, a bit of foresight would probably have extended the life of these birds don't you think?
Saying that we won't go there;)

Air NewZealand and Korean Air also fly to Honolulu via Syd/Melb

I forgot about Air New Zealand - if the connections at Auckland work out that could be a good posibility for the OP. Wouldn't all the Korean Air flights be via Seoul? Seems an inordinate diversion to get to Hawaii and I expect it wouldn't be competative would it?

Also JAL via Japan. And an obscure one - Continental (Micronesia) - that flies Cairns-Guam-Honolulu.

We just got back from a meeting in Hawaii and my poor colleagues stationed in Okinawa flew Okinawa-Guam Honolulu on Continental/United. They had a 14 hour delay going and 12 hour delay returning. One impression was that the Guam-HNL flight was too empty so they just cancelled it and gave the passengers a $10 food voucher and told them their only chance of leaving the airport was in the first 20 minutes of the delay. Thereafter they were hostages. No idea what happened returning. The level of concern on the airline's part was minimal.
