TravelPass with DSC offer (No Longer Offerred)

As reported upthread, when I called about future booking Qantas cancelled, Hobart call centre offered a full refund but I opted for TravelPass with DSC.

Then I asked whether an existing travel credit (from flight I had cancelled) could be converted to TP with DSC - again no problem.

So who knows!

Well I think the difference is about bookings eligible for TP's - ie ones cancelled by QF. Both times I've talked to HBA they've verified the booking in question as being either a flex fare or cxl by QF as per the T&C. Mine meet the critera, and like youm the flight credit I asked to convert also met the criteria so they were happy to oblige happily.

I think the difference is more that converting a booking or credit for flight not cancelled by QF shouldn't in theory qualify.

Howver when I think about it. from QF's point of view.. say I choose to cancel a booking due to border restrictions or whatever.. my option is a flight credit. If I call QF and say hey look can I, instead of a flight credit, get a travel pass issued? QF is still keeping the $$$$ it's more the instrument in which it is available. We all know flight credits are problematic for many well known and well documented reasons.. TP's are far less restricted (and a DSC or DP offer attached is cherry on top). QF want to keep the $$$ at all costs so there probably is a bit of leeway given to agents, specially Premium ones, to say yeah you know sure. A TP is really a more flexible flight credit after all.

I think if someone demanded a refund to their CC in such a situation they'd be met with more resistance.

Called on Friday 16/07 around 0750 and spoke to Frank in Hobart re booking cancelled 1 Aug. Was offered full refund however asked for TravelPass with DSC and received opt-in confirmation email 0756!

Also asked if existing $1429 travel credit could be converted to TP with DSC - no problem at all with confirmation email received 0800!

TravelPass expiring 12/22 received just before midday (Monday 19/07) for existing travel credit, TP for cancelled booking still pending.

Much better than waiting for a refund I reckon and provides a lot more flexibility from my perspective 😃
And the TravelPass for cancelled booking mentioned in post #31 above was received 04/08 😁

Anyone have any experience on how long these take to arrive?
Thanks to this forum I knew to ask for a travel pass with double credits when I cancelled some bookings yesterday. The actual flight had already been cancelled by QF and I had booked flex for upgrade and SC reasons so they were eligible.
I received the opt in confirmation email straight away.

They said it could take up to four weeks to receive the pass itself. Anyone know how long it actually takes?

Ther also said they weren’t supposed to chase them up for you if you needed them sooner. Anyone have any experience trying this?
I’m currently doing 14 days in Darwin so I can return from QLD to WA and I need to book my flight home.

Also did you know toi can opt for a 10% increase in value when they are issued instead of double SCs?

My pass took only a day or so to arrive after I received the confirmation email on the same day as contacting QF.

Thanks this is useful.
I still haven’t decided whether I will use this to fly back from DRW to PER or save it and put it towards a fare which will earn more SCs later.
If only I had a crystal ball. A trip to Nouméa with double SCs would just about keep my platinum until September 2023.

for me both times it was a week max. They clearly do them in batches but it seems on a fairly regular basis.

6 days for me

I was told you could call and get it done if you had to - post # 25

Yes - posts 11 & 18 😊

Just had 1k in NZ flights cancelled by qantas. I had used x 2 travel passes to book this flight.

They have cancelled and given me one flight credit with a new PNR. As someone holding $4200 in DSC travel passes expiring 31/12/2022 (obs flights are bookable until ~350 days out from then), I consider this a big WIN as the credits are valid till 31/12/2023. This puts this 1k out by another year, given how terrible the current travel outlook is looking for 2022/2023.

I also have the option of calling next year if things are looking up and asking for it to be refunded back to the original x2 DSC travel passes. Mileage may vary here, but I feel i'd have a compelling arguement as a platinium and its non-sensical that they have refunded to a flight credit and not the travel pass IMO.

Either way my main concern is that i'm going to flush a portin of $4200 down the drain if we cant travel much internationally next year. Especially since flights are able to be booked for other people - which I was lied about to by the call center orignally.

So it's not a new TravelPass? I don't think they have PNRs do they, just a 'card number' ?
Correct. It is a flight credit. Not a travel pass. If anyone has successfully turned these into a travel pass expiring end 2023, now that'd be interesting. Highly doubtful though.

I had two NZD bookings > $1k each cancelled this week. I called and discussed converting them to DSC travel passes if possible - the agent seemed dubious.

In the end I went the refund route as using a NZD travel pass even if one was available could be problematic in the next 6 months or so. Maybe I'll make a small bonus on the exchange rate.

But you paid for the flights with cash orginally right?

Each way - one booking was made strait out paid with a Credit Card. The other using a flight credit of ~$1100 & ~$40 difference (CC). No Travel Pass involved though.

Voluntarily cancelled an upcoming flight (Red e-Deal) due to VIC lockdown extension just announced. While the agent offered a Flight Credit, she was able to change to a Travel Pass when I asked.

10% extra credit, DSC, multi-booking redemption and an extended expiry (31Dec22 instead of 12 months from initial booking)!

So my recent experience with getting a TravelPass with DSC for a voluntary cancellation wasn't unique. Consistently inconsistent!!

I read somewhere - maybe pointshack (?) - that the criteria is either a QF cancellation OR a flexi fare.
Don't have first hand evidence that this is actually the case as QF cancelled my flight and put me on a later one, so it was technically a flight cancellation even though the practical impact would only have been a delay.

- i have multiple travel passes - thousands of $. very worried i'll loose lots of this due to covid and less than 18 months to use it all.
- booked NZ flights with using funds from 2 travel passes
- qantas cancelled
- i called today about my partners flights (direct cash refund) and thought id ask about what the options are - refund back to travel pass, hold the flight credit or a refund to cash.
- he had to clarify with someone else but a refund to the original card I purchased the ORIGNAL flights on, that became the x2 travel pass is possible.
- so to clarify - WIN! thats 1/4 of the $ off my travel passes back in cash.
- due in 8 weeks, spoke to hobart premium call center.

Done. New flight to NZ purchased with travel pass from previous 2020 cancellation. New flight cancelled by QF. Called to convert to new travel pass, with DSC, expiry now dec 2023 for bookings to dec 2024. Still have unused portion on original Travel Pass ( with DSC, expiry dec 2022).
