If you're worried about forgetting stuff in the safe - put one of the shoes you plan to wear when you're leaving in there. You'll see the lone one and remember where its partner is.

I carry everything expensive around with me. Except the laptop, which I lock to something with a cable lock. Unless I'm at the pool or something, then the room safe get packed full.

Yes. I have wondered if the housekeeping staff ever do this "accidentally" on purpose for ease of entry later !! Just my suspicious mind perhaps ?

During the day when I out everything is in my locked luggage but nothing valuable. >> I am extremely paranoid of people going through my things including shaving gear, toothbrush etc so everything is locked away....

I have had my house burgled with belongings also thrown about, and simple, sentimental value things stolen which upset me, but the feeling of 'violation' has stayed with me.
This makes me a little on the defensive side when in hotels [I use a few] and I make sure my luggage is locked [left in the room] and carry my passport, IDP, and things of value with me
I am not overly paranoid however, and always have travel insurance.
My feelings are if someone really wants my stuff - they're going to take it anyway !

I actually dont mind someone stealing from me in a hotel room. Most things in my luggage are cheaper than those fancy gadgets they have in the room I am put up. I just steal it back from the bigger thieves who steal from me everytime I travel...the insurance companies
